Casing: Crumble vs Whole Cakes?
    #4615853 - 09/03/05 11:33 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I have read A LOT of the stuff about casings, and almost every grow log on here and now i am looking for an expert opinion. Should I crumble or leave whole, or slice them?
Crumble, whole, or sliced
You may choose only one
Whole
Crumble
Slice

I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend casing them whole. Having done boatloads of both methods, I'm of the opinion that whole is more effective, and feel that the zero recovery time of the substrate (as compared to crumbling/slicing) pays off in when the crop comes through. Try them both, and find what works best for you.

see thats what i thought, i saw a couple people doing whole and most doing crumble, imagine whole it would be less fruiting time and smaller flushes, and crumbling would be more time bigger flushes(due to more even distribution. But WTF do i know i am just a newbie.

Back when I was doing grain casings, I did some side by side, leaving the casing as huge chunks mostly...and then some where I broke up every peice of grain in the quart, and spread it all out even..and I had better results from breaking it up everytime. Maybe not quicker results, but better yeild everytime. I say try both, and see what works for you...

You've got the rest of your life to try it both ways and find out. :smirk: It's just PF cakes after all. If you stay in this hobby for awhile, you will go through ALOT of cakes. I'm with deanofmean on this one. If you're already going through the trouble of crumbling and casing, you might as well jump up to doing h/poo. You'll never do it any other way after that!
