I use ground eggshells at the moment, but have used crushed oyster shell in the past. I ground up tons of eggshells awhile back, and have a pint jar full of powder, so trying to use that up...

You might as well return that hygrometer and get your money back now. I went thru 4. They can't handle the constant high humidity. None of mine lasted more then a few weeks.

If you are using coir and verm., you don't need to buffer it. It should be in the right range from the start. You can add oyster shell as a long term buffer if you want.

Sounds like you are on the right track allready, I dont use oyster shells with any coir based casing layer unless its got peat moss in it
