i really haven't been keeping up with the damage katrina has caused. now it's hard to catch up.
anybody have pics or summaries of this crazy event? (explain as if you were telling a person who doesn't know what's going on)

Hurricane Katrina was a powerful hurricane that caused extensive and severe damage over the southeastern United States, including Louisiana's largest city New Orleans, in August, 2005. Federal disaster declarations blanketed 90,000 square miles of the United States [1], an area almost as large as the United Kingdom. Katrina may eventualy be classified as the worst natural disaster to hit the United States to date. Disaster relief plans are in operation in the affected areas. Currently, five million people are without power in the Gulf Coast region, and it may be up to two months before all power is restored [2]. "Federal disaster declarations blanketed 90,000 square miles of the United States - an area almost as large as the United Kingdom."

thanks for that.
so new orleans is basically destroyed? i went there once, it was a cool city. kind of wierd to think it's not gonna be there anymore.
i've been through a few hurricanes, one when i was younger named 'hurricane felix' interestingly enough..but is this hurricane's damage more severe just because NO was below sea level?

Yeah it's getting very bad down there..
Just go over to msnbc.com or cnn.com and read the main article they have up and you'll get a good idea. They usually update every couple hours.
Quote:
"They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded," Gov. Kathleen Blanco said of 300 National Guard troops who landed in New Orleans fresh from duty in Iraq. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will."
