Yeah, for the most part, reasonable people are agreeing that it wasn't Bush's fault, but someone is at fault (FEMA, states gov't, etc.). Even O'Reilly said last night that someone should be held accountable for the lack of preparation.

From what I understand, there were buses loaded with MRE's and bottled water a good distance away that just sat there as people where dying from lack of supplies. That is hardly a local person's fault. Why couldn't they have air dropped tons of supplies? Fact is they could have and they didn't right when they should have. You can hardly blame any mayor for that. That's FEMA's job to get that stuff in there.

It should have been the local government's responsibility to load up any and all buses they could get their hands on to shit people the hell out of there. I know they didn't do that.

More National Guardsmen would be available if they weren't in.........IRAQ.

So when we went to Iraq, we were supposed to know that we needed all of our Guardsmen at home b/c one of the worst hurricanes ever was going to sweep through New Orleans?
I opposed the war, but that is a stretch beyond belief.
Plus, from the looks of it, the timeliness of the aid was the problem, not the amount of it.

At least once Katrina hit Florida I heard people speculating on a direct hit to New Orleans; some people even said it would be a level 5. Obviously, neither happened; it downgraded to a level 4 and gave it more of a glancing blow by swerving slightly, otherwise it would be much worse.
But there was more than enough time to prepare. It's rather stupid to blame others for natural disasters, but it's supposedly the government's job to respond, and they did a shitty job of it. As our president, Bush may be held accountable, even if he isn't directly responsible.

No, we were supposed to not squander precious troops and resources on a completely unnecessary war in case something like this happens.
