spores falling?
    #588920 - 03/25/02 11:00 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

this is my first time so...

i moved my first fully colonized cake to the terrarium and i got little shroomies fruiting. i am concerned however with this discoloration on the cakes directly underneat the caps. its turning dark. it looks like what i would imagine spores falling from the caps onto the cake would look like. is that all it is?

please tell me its not contamination.

and if thats all it is, does that mean they are done?

do cakes produce smaller mushrooms than casing?

thanks in advance-
love, peace, and hair greas...

>is that all it is?

no. spores do not come from pins, only fully matured mushies, with broken vails.

its probablly a little blueing which is natural for cakes, they contain psilociben(sp) too.

but its tough to say w/o a pic.

>do cakes produce smaller mushrooms than casing?

no, cakes and casings will produce about the same sized mushies. but casings can get bigger yeilds on early flushes. stick to cakes for a few flushes before you try to do a casing.

hope that helps a little.

don't worry, I am a beginner like you. I am also in about the same stage as you, Ia have pinns. And yes I have some small blue spots as well, so logically if we both have same thing, then it must be OK.
