hello... does anyone have any information on using rye flakes as a substrate??? ive been searching around for a while now and have found one page that says anything about it, and that says not to use it. what are the possible complications of using them? any info is appreciated.

Flakes of anything are a poor texture. Think of a jar of cereal...what happens after its been in your bowl for an hour? And how about a few weeks? Completly mush, compact and crap. You need seeds, like wild bird seed, rye berries, millet ect.

allright, so it would take longer to colonize then berries because it clumps up. probably about the same time as rice flour? know of any problems other then that? thanks

No, meaning it wont work. Try just rice flour by itself with no verm, and see what you get...nothing.

A dentist or a veterinarian can help with sterilizing jars. Where I live there is a lab where people can rent a small office and get access to all kind of lab equipment
