Religion is Death
    #4609693 - 09/01/05 08:12 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I have found that most problems with god stem from problems with religion. Religion causes people to follow out of fear of going to hell rather than love of god. I believe in a God; however, I do not believe in organized religion because I feel it is for people who are "sheep" and cannot be critical of there own thoughts and actions. The only person who should be responsible for your salvation is yourself. Saving yourself begins now, you must first save yourself in this life to even attempt to save your spirit in the next. I see too many people living out their lives completely oblivious to what is passing them by.....LIFE. We are selling out lives for something as insignificant as money. We need to know ourselves better. We want things in life, but we dont know why. We want to be happy, but we dont know how. We waste too much time chasing shit that doesnt matter. I believe that god comes in many forms, and there is no "right" or "true" way to god. Anyone who says that there is only one way to god is in a way placing him/herself above god by saying that they know the truth. Religion make people sheep by telling them what to think about god. It is like telling someone what a poem or piece of art means rather than letting them discover their own meaning for the poem or artwork.

well, a real christian should read and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, that's all, church is optional, and mostly unnecessary, it doesn't make anyone a christian

aig, it seems to me that you are concerned more with the christian teachings than others. Theyre arent that many beliefs that believe in compensation and retribution after life. Not all religions are "god fearing".

What is "salvation"? How do we save ourselves? What's the point?

I think this is simply the biological advancements of the human brain. We developed these intelligent primates, and then they all were wondering what the hell was going on, so over millions of years more Darwinism created sections of the brain fine-tuned for faith and religion.

In my opinion, people who preach organized religion and people who preach individual salvation to God are both just as full of leaps of faith, both as delusional as one another. The organized religion often has many stupid taboos, but the individual God-fearing citizen isn't much better or more intelligent. They're simply taking the same sheepish delusions and trying to form it into an individual delusion, like mass insanity versus individual schizophrenia.

And in all actuality, life has no meaning.

Just my personal take on it.

 you are such a happy and positive person, I like

life has nothing but meaning

weee

I wonder how long this argument could go on?

"life has meaning"

"no it hasnt"

"yes it has"

"no it hasnt"

"yes it has"

"no it hasnt"

maybe people arguing whether life has meaning or not (or for that matter even waste time arguing about it) ... maybe these people are the real stupids ?

obviously there is no answer.

to some people life has meaning?

to some, appearantly, it has no meaning

who would you rather be?

maybe that?s the interesting choice?

maybe life has no meaning if you just sit and think about how little meaning you can find in everything?
maybe you just see "no meaning" because you look for "no meaning"?

I like drugs

peace

Life has no inherent or universal meaning. Any meaning you apply to it is artificial.

mushman:Life has no inherent or universal meaning. Any meaning you apply to it is artificial.
The simplest universal meaning is: To make the existence of itself longer.
Life is to easily serve existence of something somehow.

And if you ask me directly, I say, life is the existence of meaning, itself.

What's so good about existence?

Evidently, our existence is short-lived; we will give birth to a whole new type of existence, and eventually so will the universe. Eventually we may have a universe of black holes, and finally a vaccuum of a universe with the occassional single photon zooming by. What's the point? Existence only seems good because we exist and we have evolved to have an intense fear of not existing (or at least many of us have). But if we didn't exist, as will probably happen one day, then what does it matter?

With further consideration, I agree with you. The purpose of life is to perpetuate itself.
What I should have said was, "Existence has no inherent meaning"

rav, it matters, that we don't exist anymore (in this way, anyhow).
We can't bring (our) intentions, ideals, love to existence anymore, we are not anymore here to give, what we need....

Existance has meaning for some, none for others.  I like to think that the universe is one big cell trying to duplicate itself.  Just like the "rules" of a cells makeup is defined by the DNA, so is the universe in the sense that we are here, and we quantify every damn thing we can.  So maybe our sole purpose is to act as the DNA of the universe so that it can replicate itself.

Without perception, how can anything exist on its own, without some sort of classification? Otherwise, what the hell is the difference between black and white?  Light and dark?  Pleasure and pain?  I am pretty sure a coffee table doesnt know what the hell a computer is. Or does it?

Maybe "God" doesnt even know s/he (it?) exists. Maybe "God" is nothing more than a higher form of life (ie, human:ant, as "God":human).  I dont know whats cooler... The speculation or the fact that as humans we can never know.

:heart:Peace:heart:

One unversal meaning of life through existance coulde be, to get conscious of itself and see all the implying contradictions
