Casings: What are valleys?
    #4606972 - 09/01/05 03:50 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I keep hearing about it in the FAQs, but never see any pictures.

How would there be valleys in the top casing layers? It says I'm supposed to smooth it out lightly after applying it over the colinized substrate, so what are these valleys they're talking about?

I'm using coco coir and vermaculite btw.

The casings surface should be as level as possible yet the surface structure must have irregularities. Irregularities will have these mountains and valleys, lightly dragging a clean fork also works if you have a light touch. What you want are humid pockets in the casings surface structure this is where pins proliferate. GL
