It's kind of hard to tell someone who just lost everything they own not to pick through a flooded walmart. I'm not going to judge them.

People die because they stay home to try and protect their property from looters. Looters who steal things that they do not absolutely need aid in the destruction of disaster areas. If you think I am just saying we should shoot looters to get a rise out of people you are dead wrong. The disaster relief people don't have time to arrest people, but they damn sure could fire a shot or two.

The young black men who were stealing, by my count, 43 pairs of Nikes, and told the reporter they lived in the projects, are the worst of the worse.

Stealing is wrong, but I guess it's just the lack of respect I have for this corperate pack of wolves that run america that I just can't feel sorry to see them loose anything. The looters can clean those mini malls dry for all I care. Yes that is a bad attitude but it is how I feel at this point.
Alot of the looters had very little to begin with, now they have nothing. Gratz on some new shoes and enjoy the heineken.

Also, I don't know why I didn't notice this earlier, but most insurance policies don't cover looting or other acts of civil disobedience. So they won't be getting paid back.

So the question is who is the enemy? The insurance company for not covering it or the government for not enforcing the law?

Think about all these people who lost everything they had...they have nothing,so stealing money and other shit is a matter of survival now. They have nowhere to go except another fucking astrodome..

I'm a little worried about the emphasis being placed on a few stores getting ripped off for a pair of shoes or two. I think human and animal life comes first - then we can start worrying about Nike's profit margin this quarter.

As was noted numerous times in the thread, most people are not concerned about looters taking survival necessities. What is despicable is taking tvs, jewelry, alcohol, ect....

Walmart killed all the mom and pop stores. They have done more damage to the ability to run your own small business than the hurricane ever could.

B.S., the effects of a hurricane are much greater in scope, destroying life and property. Walmart provides competition and less expensive goods for consumers, BIG difference.

The hurricane areas will be rebuilt and walmart will still be there. They have strong armed their way into the surrounding communities. The ONLY stores that have survived walmart have been the specialty ones and the cloned copies of walmart (mejier which isn't mom and pop either). While I will admit to some exageration on my part, I am not exagerating much. Walmart in my area has made it to the point where as much as I hate it, I am FORCED to go there at times. Running a small business in general goods is next to impossible because of them. Whereas a hurricane you can collect insurance and rebuild. But when walmart rebuilds next to you, you are fucked and that is NOT an exageration.

Walmart killed all the mom and pop stores. They have done more damage to the ability to run your own small business than the hurricane ever could.
And the casino's that were built in Mississippi revitalized the area and brought in millions of tax revenue, now they are being looted. I've been to New Orleans about 10 times in my life and I can tell you that it's filled with little grocery stores and privately owned, small business, gas stations and convience stores. If you are so sure thats how things are down there, why don't you box up all of your valued merchandise and mail it down there?

I guess I shouldn't compare walmart in my area to hurricane damaged areas as I have never been down there. I was speaking from the damage walmart has done in my area specifically. If a natural disaster wiped us out, a small business could rebuild, but if walmart moves close by there is no amount of prayer that will save it as you will not make enough to stay afloat.
