colonize, damn you!!! COLONIZE!!!!
    #4604977 - 08/31/05 08:39 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Hey hey everyone.  First time growth attempt. So naturally, I'm a bit on edge here.

Its been 1 week, 2 days and 4 hours so far since inoculation. And 3 of the 6 jars I inoculated (1/2 pint, BRF/Verm) show signs of growth. Very small amount, but some.

Each of the 3 jars has colonization about the size of a dime. One dime per jar.

Strain is B+ that I got from FSR Canada.  I keep them in a 78-88 degree temperature range (night vs day) since I don't have central heat/air. Completely in the dark.

So, my question is.....is this normal, or is the slow colonization something I should be worried about? I just figured there would be much more growth at this time.

Thanks for any input!

Tokey

It can be caused by too much water. Is gas transmission allowed to occur? Also, it can just take time sometimes. I had 4 cakes that barely did anything like yours, and then all of a sudden they were at 90% in just a couple days. Just sit back and relax. You cant always rush nature bro.

Exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for that reassurance.

Gas exchange? You mean are they covered? Yes, they are covered with tin foil loosely. No tape. And I take the foil off once a day for the air exchange.

I do believe I under-inoculated though. I squirted just enough in the jars for it to run all the way down the inside of the jar. I really didn't pay attention to the needle. But when I was done with all the jars, I had about 3 or 4 ccs extra.

Should I reinoc or just say screw it and lay back?

Again, danke.

as long as you dont see contamination your fine, just give it time,
every grow is different from the previous one for me. I dont use
tape at all, I just put in a sterial tupperware tub with lid, in the dark closet and leave it alone, never looking till a couple of weeks have passed.

signs of colonization signals the waiting game. If there was enough innoc to JUST reach the bottom then your good. You dont need any more. Besides, it's kinda like asking "If I put 1,000,000 more seeds in my little flower pot, will I grow flowers faster?" Adding more innoc isnt gonna speed things up.

I used cash in the mail and it took 2 weeks 5 days for total turnaround. I am guessing 7+ days to get there and 7+ to get back.

From waht I can tell, they are pretty busy there and it takes a few days for your shipment to get out. No worries, it'll make it.

I dont even know where they are on a map!!) But that doesn't really matter anyway. That only makes a difference with packages I believe. And this is just a letter.

Anyway, thanks for the blessing and good luck to you as well!
