Who are your favorite drummers?
I'm doing some research and would like everyones opinions on who you think are the best drummers out there.
Danny Carey? Tommy Lee?
Please post links and pictures if you've got them. I'd appreciate it. Thank you.
~Desiree~
Also...if you are a drummer yourself....please feel free to add yourself to the list.

lol...i am my favorite drummer!
nah, id have to say Danny Carey and Brian Chippendale (LB) are my current favs. but here are some drummers i gotta give props to: John Bonham, Tim Alexander, Carter Beauford, Terry Bozzio, Steve Gadd, Horatio Hernandez, Mitch Mitchell, Buddy Rich, Brain, David Silveria, Spug (or whatever the fuck his name is now), and many others. Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy got skill, but their lead singers suck so bad i cant listen to their music.

Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy Tomas Haake of Meshuggah Sean Reinert- Played with Death on "Human" record....also with Cynic and Gordian Knot. Danny Carey Chris Penny of the Dillinger Escape Plan
Only the first two are personal favorites, the remaining three were just off the top of my head. They all kick ass though.
I'm a drummer myself. I consider myself really good, but not at the level any of those mentioned....maybe Danny Carey.

He's an amazing drummer, but he does use some electronic drum triggers (from what i read) a few times.
Still though...

Two more biggies:
Stewart Copeland Jon Theodore
And so what if Carey uses electronics? It's not like he's using it to trigger extra bass drum notes like some cheesy metal drummers do. He integrates electronics to expand his pallette. It's not a crutch in any way.

Art Blakey for sure. Frank Zappa manages to find some extremely amazing drummers on many of his albums, they are usually jazz drummers. For good drumming, look no further then jazz, look a bit behind to find some good rock and roll drummers. Edit: I also like the two drummers from the Allman Brothers.

That guys a dork.
I usually hate good rock drummers, because they are usually obnoxiously good. I like Jazz drummers because they are stylishly good, and they usually have enough musical etiquette to know not to play an obnoxious solo. Check out elvin jones.
I made a favorite jazz drummer thread, because they really deserve a class of their own. If you were to make some neal pert fanatic listen to an Elvin Jones recording, the person would probably say that Elvin was much inferior and that he sucked. Elvin was more about style.

I agree with your points but doesn't calling Bozzio a dork undermine your meaning? As if his dorkiness doesn't rock enough and thus he's a bad drummer?

John Bonham of Led Zeppelin Ringo Starr of the Beatles Mike Portnoy of Dream Theatre Jimmy Chamberlin of the Smashing Pumpkins
and my personal favorite at this moment, Carter Beuford of the Dave Matthews Band. Some say he's obnoxious with all his accenting all the way through the songs....but that motherfucker has poise up there on the throne. He's the reason DMB is so good.

I feel like a terrible person for bringing up such an old post but I'm shocked at how many people said that Keith Moon was their favorite drummer...Keith moon was a big fuckin douchebag who never practised, never even owned a drum kit and then somehow fluked himself into looking like a flashy drummer. Some real drummers...
David Garibaldi Jojo Mayer John Blackwell Dave Weckl Vinnie Colaiuta Steve Gadd Rick Latham Dennis Chambers Eloy Casagrande Tony Royster Jr. Rocky Neil Carmine Appice John Bonham Alan White And so many more.... but keith moon honestly is just a horrendous drummer...
Peacefulness.

1) Bozzio is an amazing drummer. This isn't opinion, this is fact. I am a Bozzio expert, and can prove beyond opinion that he could flop his dick on the face of all but 6 or 7 drummers mentioned so far.
2) No one has mentioned Morgen Augren. If you have yet to see this guy, youtube his shit and tap your jaw shut to prevent it from flopping open in awe.
3) Dave Murray
