Was at the local nusery today and picked up a couple things.
Got this ph meter,
How accurate is this type ?
Also came across this,
Anybody tried this. Has no food. Says it works like a mop, releases moisture as soil dries. Would it work in a casing layer ?
Thanks.

those ph meters will get you in the ballpark but they aren't very accurate. if you can get a stock ph buffer check it and see how far off it may be. as for the soil moist, give this material on the main ingredient a read: http://www.hydrosource.com/web_clp/990310/Msds0399.htm not sure i would use it, although something similar may be a good addition to the casing layer.

Hey.
Thanks for the link. Most the problems seem to be associated with the dust and fine grade. This is about rice sized.
This gel like thing that causes it to get slippery when wet might be something to wonder about. Although most good things are slippery when wet, lol.

Thank God I don't cook my mushrooms, lol. Saccharin will cause cancer in laboratory rats too. If 85% of their diet is saccharin, lol.

i wish mushrooms were 85% of my diet...eh maybe not. I dont see what is proved by "they have cancer" when SMALL NOTE we gave them a grain of rice and pure Saccharin for the rest of the diet. Then again....
whatever

Test that ph meter against ph STRIPS now & then (strips don't lie & that meter can). As for the gel stuff, It doesn't hang.
I use this one: http://store.yahoo.com/cspoutdoors/noname5.html & so does Stamet's. A bit spendy, but the best there is. Also, teaches you what the RIGHT moisture levels are.
