Incubation question
    #4603531 - 08/31/05 01:58 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

i had a few jars incubating, but two weeks ago i moved and i havent been able to use the heat source that i had been using. they have been sitting in a box since then. will they continue growing when i get them to the correct temperature again, or am i risking their death? if it matters, they are almost fully colonized using a vermiculite substrate.

thanks

the growth rate may slow a little but wont stop as long as they are at room temp. The heat is to make them colonize at top speed.

You will be fine, it is good that they are fully colonised too. Many report that substrates left a while after full colonisation will yeild more potent fruits. Some doubt it but I have never heard reports of weaker fruits by doing it.

Pinning is a result of many factors, one being hyphae (the mycelium) growing and exchanging nuclei. The longer you colonize, more hyphae will 'conjugate' and you will have more potential locations for fruiting bodies.
Please add to this or make corrections as necessary.

jfyi...

you can take the box they are in and put it on top of the frig, a freezer or a water heater in your house and it will speed up the colonization.
