Stems, caps, mosquitos.
    #4602092 - 08/31/05 03:04 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

My sort-of girlfriend got an 8th of shrooms about a week ago, and on Sunday evening we split it up and washed it down with some green tea from Wawa.

I had a few reservations, which I forced myself to face before tripping, so they couldn't grab me and turn me inward. Well, only one reservation, that being the status of my sort-of girlfriend. We had broken up a few weeks before. Things felt too serious for her, she's too young, all that stuff. I decided before the trip that regardless of the situation, she's still an excellent person and I enjoy her company. I decided that part of the trip (for me) would be to work out the right way to handle this.

I had tripped five times before that night, twice at Bonnaroo on a full 8th, so I felt comfortable with doing half. She (Kristen) had tripped once before on the same dose we took on Sunday.

We were walking down a path along the Delaware Canal as they started to kick in - my hands started feeling warm, and I found myself interested in the motion of the tendons under my skin. The wildlife along the canal seemed to favor us: big blue herons wading in the water let us walk right by them, and we saw an ENORMOUS snapping turtle wading around in the shallows.

Off the canal there's a huge open park which became our next destination. We layed on the grass and watched huge thick clouds drift in. Everything on the ground turned gray-blue. We took turns sitting up and changing the world - hey, there's the horizon, there's the ground. My thoughts followed a different pattern when I was laying down. They seemed circular and more self-centered. Sitting up, looking at the world, they fell into sequence.

I am a firm believer in making a trip a trip; staying in one place just seems like a waste. So, we walked to a nearby railroad bridge that spans the Delaware River. it's about a hundred years old, looks like a Roman aqueduct, and somehow has a tree growing out of it. There is a beautiful little accidental harbor where the first arch of the bridge extends from the shore into the water. It started to rain just as we reached the shelter, which I took as a good omen.

By the time the clouds passed we had smoked a bowl and watched the veiled sun set. Early night washed everything in the same blue that the storm had brought and silver ripples were playing on the water. The trip up to this point was mostly visual; no major hallucinations or morphing shapes, but faces in every shadow and current, and the strange technicolor beauty that you all understand.

Kristen and I were talking about nothing in particular; Star Wars, childhood, God. My misgivings about our relationship were beginning to reconcile themselves. I was realizing more and more that she has a life every bit as complex and unique as mine, with its own challenges and crises; that she has to find her own way; that as long as we continue to exist in this world we'll be together in some way. We talked about how comfortable we feel around each other, and how that was something valuable.

So, that's resolved, no more boring relationship crisis crap.

After the mosquitos had their way with us by the river, we walked to Wawa (an amazing convenience store in the Northeast). Many people on shrooms become paranoid in rigid public environments. Not me. I take great pleasure in knowing a) I'm tripping, b) I'm loving it, c) they're not, d) they can't tell, and e) slurpees are delicious.

So we got slurpees and sat by the lake in town. For some reason I'm drawn to bodies of water. This is getting long, so I'll just summarize some of the more interesting/hilarious things that occured.

1) at the lake, we talked about:
a) The tragedy of Tom Cruise. What must it be like in Tom Cruise's head? How can someone actually BE Tom Cruise? Does he struggle with his fame? Is he secretly baffled by it? Probably not. He's probably totally convinced that he deserves everything he's got, and I'm willing to bet he doesn't even realize he's mortal. I want to witness the moment Tom Cruise realizes that he's old, nobody likes him anymore, and he's going to die soon. I want to witness the fall of a great ego. Ditto Russel Crowe.

b) Twos are very important. Male and Female. Positive and Negative. Matter and anti-matter. We rejected the existence of God based on this trend. Or else, there needs to be some kind of anti-God. We also wondered if, like atoms, some people are positively charged and some people are negatively charged.

c) Another God theory: there is no creator; life and intelligence are naturally occuring. But there are, most likely, forms of life in the universe that far surpass our own intelligence. And to think otherwise was extremely ego-centric, given the insane vastness and full-of-stuffness of the universe. So, maybe these vastly intelligent forms are what we conceive as Gods.

2) On the 17th hole of the Yardley Country Club golf course, we talked about Indians, or Native Americans if you care. At the time, we thought it was hilarious how badly we fucked them, and how we wanted to write a letter of apology to them.

How! As palefaces, we offer our sinceres apologies for the countless atrocities western society has visited on your people. Especially for the smallpox-laden blankets. That's just plain old mean. We've thuoght about offering to return the lands of your ancestors, but we like them. And where would WE live? If you want to commune with the Spirit of the Well Manicured Lawn, you can camp in our back yard some time! Bring the peace pipe! Anyway, thanks for the corn, and the casinos!

Yeah that's terrible, I know. We gave them some major respect for their religion though. I think our culture would benefit greatly from sending our pubescing boys into the wilderness to starve themselves until they hallucinate up a purpose to life.

Kristen and I came down together in my room, curled up in bed, listening to music. We both had great trips, and she said she found a lot of answers too, and one of them was that she wants me in her life one way or another. And she expressed hope that we end up together.

So, sorry for the long report, I'll try to be more concise the next time.
