yea i think all that pot slows down my head stuff is bull shit.this jamican guy smoked 5 joints every day for 10 years and when they tested him his head was not any worse than someone who doesnt do any type of drug.

One of my mates isn't the cleverest fellow in the world but went to almost all of his English lessons very stoned and in his exam and did extremely well and he claims its because he was relaxed he could focus on what he was learning and babble on in his answer, making perfect sense and making him score higher.

I just have come back from the Leeds music festival and had 3 or 4 bongs and did feel an inhability to "think straight" on the day I arrived back, but then again the only thing I drank from Wednesday to the next Monday was beer and vodka so that may have had something to do with it.

Just my two cents.

Don't listen to anything the TV says, remember that correlation is not causality and people will always use studies and put anti-drug spins on them. It may indeed hinder cognitive abilities, but it also enhances creativity, long term memory access (for me) and in regulated doses can help you to pay attention to lectures better (for me).

That particular study I referenced in my anecdote (which I read a long time ago) basically said .... umm.. i can't fucking remember.... stupid weed.

But the results were rather inconclusive, it was about those who smoked under 18 and significantly some were like 14-15 year olds, and how it made them moderately more prone to psychosis when they grew up, but the same correlations were not found for adults. (i believe, this was my understanding the few times i read it)

Contrast that with the images the news showed of some old fat hippy lady in a shirt with pot leafs on it.....




For me, weed makes me really stupid if I do it too much and then quit.... for the most part I just feel slightly foggy, it takes me longer to remember things and I sometimes make dyslexic mistakes in my typing. But as a pro, weed has taught me how my brain works, how my cognition and memory work, and when I can't remember something I've learned that you don't need to try, you just wait for your brain to tell you what it was you were thinking about. And when you are making dyslexic typos it's not the weeds fault, it's because you're thinking about 3-5 different things at once and your "typist" is trying to figure out which idea to type out, so sometimes it jumbles phrases.

Weed can teach you how to operate yourself in a more efficient manner, if you ask me. But it can also make you lividly stupid depending on how, why, and how much you use it.

I find it, if your able to concentrate and make your mind concentrate and remember while stoned...It kinda trains your mind in these area's when your sober and it's much easier to do such things...

I don't know that's just me....

But remember not to smoke to much to where you can't think straight....Just enough to feel the buzz...

anyone that says anything was "proven" about something they saw on TV might just be too "stupid" to get some hard facts...

I've smoked pot habitually, multiple times daily, since I was 16 yrs old. Since then, I've gotten multiple bachelor, master and PhD degrees in chemistry, material engineering, math and chemical engineering. You might have "proven that weed makes U stupid", but I've only gotten smarter since I started using. Shroomery is supposed to be about dissolving misinformation about drugs, not perpetuating it.

Yea.....im a really big pothead im pissed atm cause i havent smoked in 2 days but yea id say ive gotten dumber ive only been smoking weed for 4 months but its effected the way i think and my speech a lot thats y i wanna get into shrooms also weed gets expensive...i can hopefully find shrooms for free

so far from all these idiots who smoke weed all the time. I would find it hard for me to smoke weed and get all those degrees, but then again you wanted to get the degrees.

A very long post, but I do have a lot to say about the subject: Skip to the bottom to get the picture!

How much I smoke: .5-2 grams a day, varies based on my mood and type of marijuana. There is atleast one day of the week where I don't smoke, so 6 days a week sounds about right.

Studies of Marijuana: Its very important to consider the argument against marijuana when conducting your own opinion.  The way I feel when reading studies which can prove marijuana to be harmful in some way, I tend to think about how many other harmful substances there are out there which are socially-acceptable.  For example, Alcohol also damages the brain, but damages the liver as well.  Tobacco, also socially-acceptable has also drastic effects on the body as well.  There is a vast wealth of studies towards marijuana, I'd say test yourself and find how it effects you.  Take it very seriously! You don't need to be a scientist to study, you have the Internet as your resource (as well as yourself!).  I'd suggest anyone who is interested in drug-use to take an introductory course in Physiological-Psychology.

Do I feel stupider?:  I smoke weed everyday, there are times where I've taken a day as a break, but I take my education very seriously.  While researching marijuana and testing myself as well, I had come to realize my issues related to marijuana were more related to my choices made. UNDER THE INFLUENCE, I feature short-term memory loss, though with a nights sleep of 7-9 hours, a nutritional meal, and good amounts of water, I feel like a million bucks.  But I feel that way even without smoking weed and doing the same things.  I have a good GPA for my standards and I don't feel like weed has caused me any loss except for $$$$.  Oh yeah I do enjoy going to school high,  I like to be precise when it comes to mathematics so I try to not to be high during a test or during  math homework.  But i have smoked weed the night before a math exam and did well. 

Motivational Issues related to Marijuana use: Once when I was high, I didn't go to school because I didn't feel like it.  My conclusion:  Don't smoke weed when you have to get to class in 10 minutes and you have a 15 minute drive ahead of you. I know of many smokers out there who do feel they have motivational issues due to marijuana.  To be honest,  I don't consider these people to have their priorities straight in the first place and feature many sociological/psychological issues which I feel could effect their motivation more than marijuana, but that's my opinion. 


The big picture: TOO MANY STUDIES OUT THERE, GO DO YOUR OWN STUDIES! I suggest to all of you to get your priorities straight,  I smoke weed everyday and am doing fine in school.  Lack of sleep effects me way more then marijuana does and I notice that some are quick to blame weed for some of their problems.  When they probably have their own motivational/psychological issues already.  IF ITS PHYSICALLY EFFECTING YOU IN A NOTICEABLE WAY, STOP! But it hasn't to me, after smoking I feel the bong burrn sometimes though, but that quickly disappears.  I walk a lot during the day and don't get as tiresome as some of smoking/non-smoking colleagues.

A tip is to get a list of things you need to get done for the day, initiate and complete them with  the reward of some herb and a good 7-9 hours of sleep for the next productive day,  That's what works for me.  I typically ask people I know, especially friends if they feel like I am abusing marijuana or "If I look like a pothead."  Even if they see any noticeable effects in me (just in case)  They always say no.  Everyone is different I know, but this is my story and my advice.

I smoke at least 3g a day and I do feel the effects but after quitting for about a month I did feel back to my normal level again. But unless you smoke that much you arent going to get "stupid"

well shit, if u're high all day, u can't function normally, you're just too high, but you can do your work, then smoke, and u're fine.

I completely agree with cloudone, YOUR choices have alot more of an effect on you than just weed.

Using yourself as an example is not valid enough of a study when in comparison to multiple others that say otherwise. THC certainly does build up in the brain and majority of pot smokers would tend to agree that they feel foggy after smoking.
Motivation and memory are certainly hindered by marijuana...I'm not even sure that can be denied at this point. Whether that means you are dumber or not, well, I guess that's up to your definition of stupid or dumb.
Like many said here, I doubt it's a matter of being stupider, but a matter of being slowed down. It's not saying that your IQ drops.

this thread brings out alot of the ignorant people on the forums who refuse to admit drugs are bad for you :P

after about 2 months of smoking weed about once every 2 days on average, along with some big sessions thrown in, i can definatly notice my memory loss. i just dont concentrate as hard anymore and its hard for me to remember exact conversations.

however, i think some of it is because its summer and i dont have any real work to do anyways :P hopefully going back to school will help


edit: when i said bad for you, i mean have atleast some minor side-effects come along with weed :laugh:

weed doesnt make you 'stupid' ever unless ur high on it. my gpa went up from 3.5 to 3.8 when i started smoking daily about a year ago. i think it makes the impression that it makes you 'dumb' because so many people that use it in schools are already dumb and sometimes drop out or just get expelled so they dont have the chance to learn.

it cures all my add symptoms, i can actually think much clearer for the week or two following use (hence i usually only somke once or twice a week) and also helps my asthma (oddly enough smoking helps? yea)  I have also read in a magazine that anti-inflamatory's may help prevent the majority of health deficiencies, including alzheimers and joint/authritis problems one may experience, of which one of the major compounds in weed is an anti-inflammitory (cant remember if it is thc or not)
i feel that as long as i do my work beforehand there is no problem, and i sincerely doubt my motivation is hindered by smoking because motivation is completely due to what i want to accopmlish

now honestly i do want to accopmlish less with my life since i started smoking, but that is majorly due to other worldly and self realizations, also my practice of meditation and study of astral projection has given me a sight of what i really need to focus my life on rather than all these physical, materialistic things.  I do not know what i will do education wise, but i am definately intelligent enough to get a masters in about anything i want to, whether or not i will want to attain that status and recieve that money later in  life is yet to be decided.

for me, the benefits outweigh the risks, and i honestly don't feel like it impairs my short term memory

just dont over do it, as long as im not high while trying to learn something i tend to do good, and i can remember a hell of a lot more things than most people, i duno

i think it may also have more to do more with the individual and their use and their goals rather than the stubstance.

Well, last I've probably smoked more this year than any other, and my last semester was my best academically and also my most challenging (Philosophy, Ancient History, Math, and an Intro course to Psych., Soc., and Anthro.) So I don't think it can make someone "stupid." However less motivated, or lazy is plausible.
