UFO On The Moon! Not...
    #4600551 - 08/30/05 09:39 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

One more explained UFO sighting: :cthulhu:

This is why UFO nuts should learn to think critically about their 'sightings' and say "I Don't Know What It Is" rather than jump to conclusions and say "I Don't Know, So It Must Be ET".

July's Full Moon looks strangely darkened and distorted in this remarkable telescopic view. The image is one of a series recorded when the Moon was very near the horizon. The long sight-line through a turbulent atmosphere gives rise to the tantalizing optical effects, including the thin "mirage" shape that seems to float just above the Moon's upper edge. Also seen (more easily in the inset), along the Moon's upper edge is a noticeable green rim. Substantial atmospheric refraction produces this prism-like effect -- related to the more commonly witnessed green flash of the setting Sun. Careful inspection of the full image reveals a corresponding red rim along the lower edge, another intriguing signature of atmospheric refraction.

dude, its the heat waves in the picture, a 5 year old could tell that

if you look round the edges of the moon it is a little distorted, when they took the picture, the hot air got just right so it bent the lower part up and the upper part down enough so there looks to be a gap at the top

i believe in some crazy shit, and i do believe in other intelligent life, but i dont think 'aliens' in the classical sense are visiting us any time soon

woops, just read the botom caption, i was right ne way, ha

Perhaps it was a long distance flag burning from an electromagnetic oscillating laser generator....?

And who claimed this to be an UFO?

Several people I know personally.

I'd bet a fair sum that several S&P regulars would hold this pic up as 'proof' of ET visitation were it not for the caption; far fuzzier pics have been presented here in recent threads as 'proof'.

These have variously included pics 'intercepted' by UFO nuts from the orbiting SOHO solar observatory which are documented manufacturing imperfections in the CCD imaging chips used in the instrument's cameras.

The same imperfections show up in every pic taken with the instrument and they are brought up again and again every few months as 'proof' of ET (and a government conspiracy to keep the pics secret even though they are in the public domain).

Nevermind that ET somehow manages to always be in the exact same pixel in every pic over the years.  :shake:

Admit it Diploid. You photo shopped that in. You just copied and pasted a portion of the moon above it and used scientific words like "turbulent atmospheric mirage" to give the phoney image more weight. Mirages are not real. :shake:

Wouldn't a photo of a mirage, make a mirage photo real....?

(my vote is still for the flag burning from an electromagnetic oscillating laser generator)

Not if it was copied pasted and faked. A real mirage photo would require a real mirage and mirages do not exist. :cuckoo:

Mirages do exist, as a mirage....  What the mirages look like (or reflect), are what does not exist - except for in the mirage itself....

It is a reflection without a solid physical mirror....

Would you say that a reflection does not exist....?  :smirk:

Oh yeah, now you are making it up that things can reflect off of nothing. I suppose you have a "turbulent atmospheric" hanging over your bathroom sink too.

That's pretty heavy....    WAIT, your just adding weight to your argument...!?

That is ok, my "turbulent atmospheric" broke when I looked into it....  :ooo:

Qell I wouldn't for sure.
First thing, if that thing was supose to be ON the moon it would be huge, ridiculously huge.
Second, it's not moving, a stil photo of any kind is a poor proof of an alien craft.
