casing ??
    #4600317 - 08/30/05 08:31 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Hi yall,

Well I've harvested my first casing flush. Now what do I do to get more flushes? If it were cakes I would dunk and roll. So do I fill the pan with water for 24 hours and then drain? Do I need to deep scratch the surface or put more casing on top? I'm a little confused at this point.

well, some people do dunk their casings, basically filling up the tray with water, and dumping the water out by putting a screen netting over the top so the casing doesn't fall out. When I dunk, I only do it for a few hours, so the casing doesn't fall apart.

you don't need to do a deep scratch unless your casing was overlayed.

after the first flush...I basically do the dunk, and then just fill in the holes in the casing layer, where I picked, with fresh casing material.

what about the edges of the casing where it pulled away from the sides of the pan, should I fill that in to?

yes, fill that in with some moist casing material. That will keep the light out and help to avoid side pinning, which can be a bitch.

Good advice srgtm 1a. If the casings water delivery was maintained properly no dunk will be necessary. Many of your pins for the next few flushes were developed in your initial pinset so don't scratch. Read my pinning strategy it will explain alot and give you a better idea when scratching is important and what proper water delivery actually is. GL
