Yeah, so I'm pretty much a newbie here, but I have been researching pretty much everything to do with the mushrooms that can, and I think DO, grow in my area. The liberty cap, and the P. Cyan. So, does anyone have any pointers for me, for a first hunt, im going in about a week, scheduled for after a rainfall, so yeah, if you could give me some tips or hints, that would be great! And hopefully soon enough I will be posting for help with IDing and to show my finds!! Thanks!

You're way too early for shrooms on the island. Liberty caps and Ps. cyans do grow there but mid Sept. at the earliest. There is a chance of finding Conocybe Cyanopus and Ps. Stunzii right now, however.

Bearmtn This stuntzii I searched the site for info on it, and how to ID it and it says it grows throughout summer, July-September, but my guess is that it only grows on watered lawns?

shawny-
Please do your own research. It's not that everyone here doesn't want to help you out, its just that we get 12093810298 of these posts every day (when, where, how, what can i pick in my area?) Start by reading the sticky thread at the top of the mushroom hunting forum (this one). Also, use the search button at the top of the page. There is more info on this site than you'll probably ever need.
Also, check out http://www.mushroomjohn.com
It is a little early for liberty caps and cyanescens, which do grow in your area. September - december is the bulk of the season. We have to wait til it cools off and the rain starts dumping on us! Can't wait myself!
Welcome to the shroomery!

Stunzii seems to grow on lawns more often in summer and bark mulch during the regular fall season; at least that's my experience. Be real careful when IDing Stunzii. Do an enormous amount of research before eating a potential Stunzii, especially in the fall when found on bark. I've seen Stunzii growing side by side with Galerina Autumn., a real deadly bugger that can look alot like Stunzii.

Ya there's many types on the island. Do your research and if possible get a good ID guide. If your just starting, Libs are a great one to go for, as they are everywhere on the island. Ps. Pells are also a in abundance on the island. P.cyan's spots are also common, but you'll find many areas well picked by other hunters. But, hit the farmer fields are mid sept and if you've done your research, you should find some libs in no time.

No libs start late september - early august usually unless the weather permits otherwise. Also, as well as P. Stunzii growing side-by-side with Galerina Autumnalis, P. Cyanescens also grow side by side, which are even easier to mistake for one another to the untrained eye.
