First Time, Small Brownish Mushroom ID Help
    #4599323 - 08/30/05 04:39 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hey, this is my first time hunting for shrooms and I am looking for some active ones. I think I may have found some Psilocybe pelliculosa but I'm not sure. I was hoping you guys could help me identify what kind this is.

* Habitat - regular soil, fairly shaded, next to front porch
* Characteristics of the gills - chocolate brown, almost white as they come closer to the stem, attached
* Characteristics of the stem - ~1", very light brown (tan) color
* Characteristics of the cap - ~1.5-2cm, light brown, getting darker toward middle, convex
* Spore print color - brown
* Color that the mushroom bruises - can't tell
* Scent of the mushroom - so so, smells a little like the mushrooms from the grocery store

thanks!

If that's a veil it looks like you have conocybe filaris, a deadly mushroom.

Psilocybes will give you a deep purple brown spore print, orange-brown often denotes a poisonous mushroom.
