Encouraging Mycorrhizas

I am planning on inoculating some silver birch trees and would like advice on how to better prepare the soil.

Plenty of organic material and good drainage. Essentially, just take good care of the tree and the mycorhizal fungi will take care of itself.

Many granular inoculants are available these days. Many are general purpose, meaning they are a mixture of mycorrhizal species. I would look for an inoculant produced in a region that mirrors yours.

A quick Google query will turn up several hits.

Are you looking to inoculate with edible species from the boreal region?

I am going to use amanita, but because of my relatively little amount experience and an ill-suited dry climate, i don't think i will be very successful.

I would try a spruce or fir tree instead, though i've found them under deciduous trees i find many more under conifers.
