id eat the red ones (amanita muscaria) they have less toxic effects. Most if not all amanita have the same active ingredients just in differ ant mixtures, the toxic chemical is actually converted to a hallucinogen after indigestion, that variation actually has more of the toxic effect rather than hallucinogenic, So its up to you!

I stopped at a local park sunday to have a lunch and run the dogs and the are was filled (30-40) with Amanita phallodes. They are deadly, I picked and threw away all that were not in a brushy area so my dogs or some young kid didn't eat them.

It looks like an Amanita Muscaria variety or possibly Pantherina variety. I don't recommend eating those because of nausea and other side effects (I use to eat them years ago, no more) but they will not kill you.

I'm probably too late getting to this post, but I would suggest digging amanita specimens up carefully, so that we could get a look at the base of the stem. That is an important feature for identification of amanitas. As well as identifying muscaria to species..

All Amanita muscaria cause upset stomach, its contains toxins that cause nausea. Var Formosa, will really upset your stomach especially if not prepared correctly. The toxins must be metabolized(aether in an oven or in a stomach), if you eat it without preparing it you will get sick, very sick and you might die but i doubt it.

that's amanita muscaria var. formosa.
personally i dont pick any muscarias that aren't at least orange. ive even found some that were almost red. but here in NS, dark orange is about as close as you get.
and no preparation ive tried has ever yeilded a worthwhile effect.
just sweating, fatigue, and a curiously easy vomitting session.
just not worth it, if you wanna try muscimol/ibotenic acid, order dried muscaria from a shroomery sponsor.
those suck too, but at least they do the trick.

one must also be aware of Amanita flavoconia.
which may look the same
