60/40 (Verm/Coir) Casing Question

In regards to this tek, is the microwave step pasteurization or sterilization? In our apartment, we are supplied a microwave, but it's itty bitty. So what would be an effective way to do the necessary step (either pasteurization or sterilization) without the microwave OR a pressure cooker? Because I don't have a pressure cooker, but I have a pot and a pillowcase... Thanks for any help! Also, it says to use a small amount more vermiculite than coir, but is that wet or dry coir? Last thing: I don't know if this matters, but I am planning on spawning either WBS or rye to poo and casing with the 60/40.

use your microwave, but nuke your casing material in those glad microwaveable containers just use ones big enough to fit in the nuker, and just stack em up. if you need more caseing material, just load up another batch of containers and nuke those.
edit: oh, and do you have an oven? thats how i do mine. mix the caseing as normal and put it in an aluminum baking pan. give it several really good squirts of water from a mister. cover with aluminum foil. bake at the invisible setting just below the lowest one on your oven for an hour and a half. turn your oven off and let it cool COMPLETELY! if you open the foil before its totally cool it will get really dried out - and if you put it on your caseing before its cool it will harm the mycelium... after its cool just case as normal. it works great for me and i've never had a problem with contaminated caseings.

nuke, stir, nuke, stir, nuke.... You can get hot spots (even fire), if you dry it out to much. It works for verm, I don't know about coir. Coir has some nutrients in it and might need a more rigorous sterilization.

This totally neglects the microwaving step, right? That's a great idea. They gave us a regular-sized oven... What are the consequenses of putting too much water? Is it easy to go overboard? You guys are awesome.

Right, sorry. But, is that wet or dry coir? I realize it's a dumb question, but with something like that, it makes all the difference. FFrom the tek illustrations it looks like 60% wet coir, 40% dry verm. Sorry you all have to spell things out so much.

I love that tek. Um...the microwaving step would be considered a ghetto way of sterilizing it, not pasteurizing.
I personally don't sterilize my coir casing material and don't have contam problems, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.
I would not pasteurize the coir/verm mix because you could mess up the water content of the mix if you don't strain out the extra water enough.
I'm sure you could get away with "steam" sterilizing the casing mix if you don't want to use the microwave. Since you don't really have any other supplies. basically put your verm/coir mix into jars (1q if you have them). fill your pot with 1" of water and slowly cook it at medium heat for about 1 hour.
"Also, it says to use a small amount more vermiculite than coir, but is that wet or dry coir?"
well, the coir should already be soaking in warm water and expanded before you add the verm, so it's wet.
"I don't know if this matters, but I am planning on spawning either WBS or rye to poo and casing with the 60/40."
no, it doesn't matter, you can use 60/40 casing for either.
You could just use your microwave like buggers suggests though....just do a little casing material at a time. You'll be surprised at how much you can fit into a microwaveable bowl...that stuff expands a lot. So depending on the size of your casing, you may just have to fill one microwaveable bowl.

So what about the oven idea? That seems like it would work. Is the temp high enough to be effective?
