Bush suffers ratings tumble as Sunnis reject Iraq charter
By David Usborne in New York Published: 29 August 2005
President George Bush's exit strategy from Iraq suffered a severe setback yesterday when Sunni negotiators rejected a new constitution, increasing the chances of outright civil war.
After a series of delays and missed deadlines, the negotiating committee delivered the completed draft constitution to the Iraqi parliament, but the assembly failed to vote on the text after the 15 Sunni members - a minority of the committee - rejected the draft because of continuing disagreement on federalism.
Mr Bush and Tony Blair, in separate statements, urged Iraqis to unite behind the project despite the disagreements. But the prospect of more violence will only make it more difficult for the Americans to withdraw from Iraq.
Mr Bush's approval ratings have sunk to 36 per cent - the lowest level of his presidency. As the number of US troops killed there has risen to 1,900, domestic opposition to the war is on the rise. Mr Bush acknowledged the strength of the opposition from Iraq's Sunni community, which is spearheading the insurgency, when he spoke to reporters at his Texas ranch.
But he stressed that "the political process now advances to another important stage for a new and free Iraq" - a referendum scheduled for mid-October. "This course is going to be difficult," Mr Bush said. "We can expect ... atrocities to increase in the coming months because the enemy knows that its greatest defeat lies in the expression of free people in freely enacted laws and at the ballot box."
Mr Bush has pinned his strategy on keeping US troops in Iraq until democracy can be declared and Iraqi security forces are able to take over security tasks. Thus a day which, according to America's vision, was meant to mark a milestone on the country's journey to democracy, instead became a new and ominous pointer to catastrophe.

According to what poll? A poll in Britain?

His ratings should be tumbling because of his drug policy, don't worry about Iraq until the war on drugs has ended in the United States.

The economy is not as rosy as some would be led to believe. Been shopping lately for food and fuel? Prices are way up, but don't quote the government's core CPI as it does not include food and fuel prices. GDP? Sell a used car for $10,000 and buy a cheaper one at $5,000 - the GDP just increased by $15,000, but there has been no increase in product! Same with existing homes, sell one for $300,000 and buy another for $200,000... viola, a $500,000 increase in the GDP - but no increase in product. The government's economic figures are designed for public consumption to make politicians look good. Debt is up, savings are down. Driven by massive increases in the money supply engineered by the Fed*, housing prices are increasing much faster than incomes and the bubble will deflate.
*The Fed buys U.S. debt (Treasury securities) by writing checks (which increase the money supply) against it's own reserves. The newly acquired treasury securities are then counted as new reserves. Now since it is a fractional reserve system, the fed can lend out to participating banks more money in an amount that is a product of a multiplicative of it's now excess reserves. This bit of smoke and mirrors creates dollars out of thin air (out of debt actually). In short, debt is used to inflate the money supply driving up prices (as seen most easily in real estate).

"The new Iraqi constitution contains a provision that no legislation may be passed that contradicts Islamic law."
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m15170&l=i&size=1&hd=0
As you can all see, this war will not bring freedom to Iraq. Every life lost in the war was a waste. The new Islamic government will be no better than that of Saddam. Bush could not care less about human rights. Bush wants oil, freedom is not on the march. Bush's close ties to the sadistic government in Saudi Arabia proves this.

If the United States was Libertarian, and they only waged war to install Libertarian governments, I would join the armed forces right away. But the United States is not spreading freedom. The United States is only interested in spreading its war on drugs, human rights could not matter less.

True libertarians don't wage wars simply for the point of overthrowing governments. That would simply make us the world police, and hated globally.
We should only wage war when our existence is threatened by a country, such as when we or our allies are attacked.
