if you can practice it seems you allready have it.

continuingly remind yourself of what it is that you really want. when you can make yourself understand that your lack of discipline and motivation are great causes of unhappiness it will become easier to practise discipline and motivation. the happier you become the easier it becomes until you will wonder how it could ever seem so hard. the initial motivation to do this must come from the fact that you are unsatisfied with your condition and wish to change it.

i guess there is a certain low point you have to reach in order to change. i mean there are things i'm unsatisfied with but i guess they aren't bad enough yet to change.

i'm guessing sort of like a routine...practice obtaining your goals...making progress on the things you want to change in your life.

because just knowing what it is that i don't like and knowing how to go about changing it isn't enough for me to change it.

That's pretty much it. Nobody does anything about something that has no real effect. Until it becomes a problem nobody fixes it. That's why the Iraq war is just a conversational topic. It doesn't affect almost anybody here in America. Random example, but..it holds.

Hmm.. I'd say it affects anyone with a son, daughter, relative, or friend in the services, anyone who votes (and everyone who doesn't), anyone who consumes gas, and anyone who has been effected in any way by the "threat of terrorism", real or imagined.

It's a conversational topic because most people have accepted the fact that they can't change the situation, which is in fact, not true.

Practice the practice until you start to see the benefits. Artificial knowledge can never replace personal experience. Artificial knowledge only helps categorizing personal experience, so at least, you must be your own teacher from some point on. And that exactly for me is the fun  It depends on where you want to get

Well look at the difference between how America was affected by say..the Gulf war..and then WWII. WWII had such a larger effect on people's lives directly. Gulf war and other smaller wars really didn't play a direct role. It was more..trickle down style. Like the Iraq war. If the war ended tomorrow, very few people's lives (in comparison to the population of the US) would change in any significant way.
