newb bulk
    #4593779 - 08/29/05 02:21 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Today, I got a lot of odd looks gathering dried HPoo next to a hiking/biking trail. One lady actually said "what are you going to use that for, a fire??" Haha. I told her it was for gardening and moved on. Anyway, I pasteurized about 5 pounds of moist poo for about an hour at 165-170 in an oven bag and am letting it cool overnight. Tomorrow (evening) I'm planning on spawning it to 6 1/2 pint BRF jars (GT). Ive got a heavy-duty aluminum pan thats pretty deep (6 in). Then it will go back into my incubator (85').

This is only my 2nd grow, and first time ever at casings let alone bulk. So, does everything sound right? I don't have a digi or I'd post some pics.

Well I hope you have it right, because I'm doing everything your doing right now too!  However, I'm spawning 11 1/2 pint WBS jars EQ

Luckily I didn't catch any weird looks when I was picking up my H poo.  I was lucky enough to find a huge pile of it... like waste deep and about 20 feet long.  I guess the owner didn't want to pick up after his animal so he just pushed it all to the side of the road hehehe!

I have a park right behind my house with horse stables. If I took one walk around the trails I could probably pick up a couple thousand pounds of poo. I'm going there this afternoon!!!!

Did the poo look like it had been there for a while? If not your better off "aging" it for a week. Leech it a few times, then pasturize. If it's too fresh, you may run into fermentation problems. GL

was the poo fresh? if so you're gonna need to leach it before you pasturize it.

the poo i got was dry as shit(i can't believe i just said that). It literally turned to like hay dust and blew away in the wind if i squeezed to hard. Some, but not all, had turned kinda gray. I did find some massive chunks semi-fresh, hard outside but still green inside, but I didn't use it.

The poo I got seemed dry, it was white on top (the good bacteria). The bottom of the poo was a little moist, perhaps from the ground? Anyway, it didnt have any urine smell, rather it smelled like dirt so I hope its ok. Im giong to go take a shower right now (just got off work) and spawn it. One question I do have, what is the best method of breaking up brf cakes and how small of peices should I break them into (for spawning)?

i break up brf cakes by unscrewing the tops and dropping them into a ziplock bag so they come in contact w/ as little outside air as possible, then i zip it up and begin to break the cake into whopper size chunks. you can leave them in the bag until you are ready to use them.. i leave them in over night sometimes so they can recoop a lil before i spawn, but not necessary. gl
