yup. considering that i put well over 100,000 miles on my car in the last 3 yeras i think that it would be econimical for me to convert to SVO, (veggie oil) for my next car. i know a few people that own resturants in the area that will give me their old oil if i ask for it.
it just seems liek a financially viable idea. i constantly road trip around the country and with rising fuel costs i cant seem to go as far or as frequently as i used to....
does anyone know how many miles to the gallon one gets with veggie iol in comparison to disel?

Do it!
You might need to tweak your car if you have a new disel engine. The best thing is that it does not contribute to global warming as long as new plants are grown for plants used to make the oil.
It is a tiny bit less efficient if you use good quality oil.

There is a very active formum over at greasecar.com with tons of info on diy conversions, greasels, and greasecar kits.
I'm seriously considering purchasing one of the aforementioned kits for my rabbit, the only thing holding me back is the possibility of building my own for much cheaper.
As far as fuel collection goes, one only needs to find a restaurant which uses roughly the equivalent of what your looking to burn. There is an interesting article on the different strategies for collecting and processing waste veggie oil (wvo) here.
Go grease.

I saw an article recently in National Geographic about this. This guy with his astro-turf covered car only pays like 8 dollars a month for fuel. I don't really like cars in general, but this is a good idea. Good luck!!
