When are reishi liquid cultures ready?

As the reishi mycelium floats, how does one judge when it's ready to be used for grain/woodchip inoculation? And the stuff's pretty damn thick, just shake the hell out of it? Thanks.

if you prepare liquid inoculant media, you shall always add some glass sheds
or marbles into the culture prior to sterilizing in order to have some
sort of primitive stirr bar to break up the thick tissue floating on top.

the best solution would be a magnetic stirr bar, anyway,
if you already got a "thick" layer of mycelium floating on top you may have
a hard time to break it up if possible at all.

next time, shake the jar every day in order to prevent that layer.
