Central Nebraska Mushrooms
    #4586502 - 08/27/05 02:21 AM (18 years, 5 months ago)

1. Found these mushrooms growing in a pasture on horse manure. There would be anywhere from 1-5 on a pile.
2. The low temperatures here have been 60 degrees and the highs about 90.
3. The mushrooms were white with light grey gills that turned black after harvesting.
4. The stems were solid and meaty. They were anywhere from 2 inches on the smaller ones to 5 inches on the biggest. The diameter was an eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch.
5. Can't say that they bruised a different color if anything I'd have to say black.
6. The smell reminded me of the mushrooms on a salad bar.
Hope this is enough information for an I.D.

I believe those are Panaeolus antillarum (non-active though you may find information around to the contrary). This id is based on the seeming lack of an annulus. If an annulus is in fact present it would indicate Panaeolus semiovatus (also inactive). P. antillarum macroscopically resembles Copelandia cyanescen, which would blue unmistably.
