dry grains?

so i used my super cool pc to sterilize some grains, only problem is that the grains don't look wet at all, wen they are pressed against the side of the glass they don't have that water-glass barrier...

are my grains too dry? i have a mix of wheatgrass and rye in a 1:2 ratio.

maybe, but maybe not, can you provide us more info like...
did you add any water before you PCd them?
did you soak the grains and for how long?
were the grains simmered and for how long?

was the rye you used, rye grass seed or rye berries like they use for making bread?

k, well they were rye and wheat berries, organic obviously lol, i soaked them for a good 24 hrs. drained until it was only moist to the touch then i put them in the jars and pc'd them.

an hour later, i had sterilized grains, im thinking that the water may have escaped through the lid, which is fedex envelope tyvek...

just now i sterilized it with dissolved agar culture from a syringe, then i taped over the hole with a piece of tape.

odds are you're good, a 24hr soak is sufficient, if you see water clinging to the grains you're likely to be in trouble later with a bacterial contam, if you had water in te PC when you sterilized them, what was in te jars wouldnt have escaped

I also hope you mean that you inoculated the jars with a liquid culture

agar said that i could put some sterile water onto an agar culture and scrape off the mycelium so it floats, so i did then i put some h2o2 in the water as well then i sucked it up into my syringe and then inoculated my jars with it.

i know that now i have a chance of contamination more likely than if i had used a clean lc, but if i dont get a contam then hopefully everything's good with my grains.

also, does it matter how much water you put into a jar for an lc just as long as the ratio of malt extract and water is the same? i made a big batch using 500ml and 1/2tbsp. of malt extract and 1/2tbsp. of dextrose. then i injected this into a jar with a filter lid and microwaved it, there's probably about 24ml of water, i used a 3ml syringe and injected more water a bunch of times.

sounds like you did OK, as for the last part about the LC, 3ml syringe and 24ml of water, I'm not grasping what your saying

my syringe was 3ml, i injected a bunch of times into the jar, so im guessing if i *think* there's 24ml of liquid only in the half pint, i must have injected 8 times, everytime putting in 3ml of liquid.

is that amount of liquid enough? that's about a centimetre thick of liquid inside the jar.

if that was for the inoculation, it was most likely too much.
for a half pint, one or two ccs was plenty

no lol, the 24ml is the amount of liquid inside the jar altogether. then i took the "liquified" mycelium from the agar that i scraped off of and then i injected that into the jar. but all in all there's only 1cm thick of liquid inside the jar, would that be too little for the liquid culture to survive?
