Firefox fucked-up ? (help please)

Ok this is weird. I was surfing the web as usual, when suddenly I can't click on any links whatsoever. I closed it, re-opened it, but I had to make a 'profile' for Firefox. Now it's lost all my bookmarks, and the layout is default.
Has anyone had this happen to them before? Anyone know how I can get to my old firefox profile?

Because If I post in OTD I will get a bunch of pointless replies, such as yours.

hit ctrl-alt-del and go to processes... look for FIREFOX.EXE and close it down... restart firefox... worked for me when that happened...
or as rod said just restart your pc

Ahh, I was just curious.
I also use Firefox but I haven't encountered any problems like this. Try what Rod and Indigo said, if the problem still persist I suggest either posting about it on the Mozilla forums, or, for quicker results, re-install the program.

I tried restarting it, but just got the 'make new profile' option. Guess I just gotta try and remember all my bookmarks.

it asks you to make a new profile because the old one is still active... when it carshed and you closed it the firefox left like a ghost open... this ghost is using your actual profile... thats why when you shut down the process you shut down your ghost and are able to restart firefox with your normal profile

The "Make New Profile" screen is coming up because an instance of firefox.exe is still running, you can't run the same profile twice so it prompts you for a new one.
Killing firefox.exe manually should work.

Do you know how I can start using my normal profile again? If I restart Firefox It just uses the new one by default.

Interesting. I used to have a similar problem with earlier builds of FireFox, only the profile would be corrupt, and I'd have to make a new one. If that's the case with you, then you might find MozBackup useful.
On the latest builds, where it says that your profile is "in use", I've found that if you reboot (as suggested) you can have things back to normal...
