What is the fucking deal with this band? Everywhere I go I see some advertisement for them or someone wearing one of their shirts. I finally hear one of their songs and it sounds exactly like all the other shit that comes out of that genre. Why are the worst bands always so popular?

these pop-punk bands are not soooooo bad in my opinion. I mean, it's rock n' roll you know. I like the pop-punk good looking teenagers afair way more than the gangster rap ala eminem or the slutty ugly blonde pop like brytney spear, the spice girls and what not.

I hope I dont get banned for this but I dont want to flame, But I'm pretty pissed about this.
To start off, I am going to post the defition of music because it seems alot of you are confused about it's real meaning.
Music
n 1: an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner 2: any agreeable (pleasing and harmonious) sounds; "he fell asleep to the music of the wind chimes" [syn: euphony] 3: musical activity (singing or whistling etc.); "his music was his central interest" 4: (music) the sounds produced by singers or musical instruments (or reproductions of such sounds) 5: punishment for one's actions; "you have to face the music"; "take your medicine" [syn: medicine]
Ok now that you've read that, MUSIC IS WHAT SOUNDS GOOD TO YOU JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT FUCKING UNDERSTAND OR YOU DONT LIKE IT DOESNT MEAN ITS SHIT.

Incorrect. I don't like it, therefore in my opinion it is shit. In my opinion it is a genre of music, not unlike rap/hip-hop, that is filled with exorbitantly untalented ass clowns.
And you know what they say about opinions. Everyones got one, and they all suck but mine.

You guys have no concept between a single....that's meant to generate sales from the 12 year olds to the older kids....as opposed to the album were the real music lies.
Then again, you guys would rather light a doobie with the grateful shit playing in the background.

My Chemical Romance is no way screamo. If you want to know what screamo is, listen to Saetia and that will give you an idea.
My chemical romance indeed sucks bad. I never cold enjoy them and I wouldnt classify them as emo either.
I always say and I will again. If you dig deep, there are a lot of emo/emocore bands that are out there that is quality and stuff you wouldnt call whiney Especially the stuff in the early 90's, before all this emo fashion appeared and mtv spread the disease. Now, %99 of the stuff that comes out under the genre emo sucks.

I think you should use mushrooms as an opportunity to listen to a lot of different music that you read about here on the Shroomery, and try that instead of listening to anything you know. That would be a cool experiment.

Because "popular" does not happen as a result of popularity. Popularity is thrust upon us. The record companies that get the most exposure for these artists are part of large conglomerates -AOL Time Warner anybody? Imagine the power of that machine working together.
They do "research" and invent demographics from which to pull info on what the "Average" person of a certain group would enjoy. That's why we end up with mediocre music like My Chemical Romance. They're appealing to the "angry, sad, disillusioned teen who doesn't feel like they fit in right" which most of us were at some point, no matter what we dressed like or acted like. And then the style of that musical genre which they, in effect, are creating - it gets matched up with all these visual assortments, the "style"...and on and on and on...god I could puke in my mouth.

Are you on drugs? Well....stupid question. I know
They were a local new jersey band and dressed the SAME way they did back then as they do now. They just lost some of the make out which definately is a big improvement. Their album was pretty underground until the networks picked up on how they could make money off of it.
As I said before, I could care less about what bands you like or hate, but before you call it easy...you try and fucking get up on the stage for thousands of kids everynight for an hour and singing your guts out.
You cant. Case closed.

MCR isn't that bad. Their first CD is an ass clown joke, but #2 was very palatable to me. They have about 3-4 good songs on the CD, and that's fine with me. You people knocking other people's music are no better than people knocking pot or your sins.

Right on at that as well though. Pinback!

yeah, I can't get enough of pinback. After the concert Rob Crow sat out and signed autographs and shot the shit with whoever for like half an hour. What an awesome guy. No mainstream band would do that. It almost hurts me that they are getting popular now.

See, they're a band I would trust to maintain musical integrity as they got more popular. Let's hope so.
I don't mind shelling out big bucks to see big shows just because I'm a live music addict. I'd spend money on that before pot.

No need to push your views of how they were a "good" band. Everyone likes different music. I happened to have not liked them at all. Im more of a zeppelin and dio kind of guy. That is, if you want to go all the way back to the 60's and 70's...or 80's.

Gotta love this shit.
This forum is full of people who hate stereotypes, and being persecuted for their ways and beliefs. Yet we have a nice long thread about a genre of music that you guys don't like. NOBODY CARES IF YOU LIKE THEM OR NOT. It's music, don't classify it, don't automatically think everyone who listens to MCR are little emo teenagers who watch TRL. Jesus Christ, you don't like it? Don't listen to it.
I like a lot of songs from My Chemical Romance, and I don't care if they're "emo", "screamo" or fucking "pop-rock". I don't care if the singer looks like a goth, and I don't care that they're popular and on MTV. They're nothing like Poison the Well, or similar bands. They're just rock, and if you have such a burning hatred for them then don't listen to them.
No one wants to hear you bitch.

Wow First off, I never classified anyone, I never said I hated the band. I never said anyone who listens to this band is a emo punk bitch. I simply said I don't understand why the band has such a big following because of their cliche sound. Feel free to go off on my opinion again because apparently YOU care if I like them or not.
And I hate to break it to you, but music will always be classified. With so many different types there has to be different classifications.

My comment wasn't directly aimed at you, even though I responded to you. I just hit reply to first poster, it was towards everyone, yet no one in particular.
I don't want you to like the band, because I don't care if you do or not. I just think it's ridiculous and utterly pointless to make a whole thread asking why a band sucks? When they don't suck, that's just your opinion. No music sucks, no music is bad. There's just music you like, and music you don't like. SOMEBODY likes it, so its all good.
And yes music will always be classified, but you shouldn't so quickly label something emo or screamo or whatever the fuck when you have no idea what you're talking about. MCR is under the Rock/Pop genre.
I'm done with this topic, now. Wasting my time.

It's a shame that so much energy has been wasted on a band as disgraceful as MCR.

hm if your asking about screamo, no. thursday would be considered emocore. screamo i more like page 99, orchid, circle takes the square. I actually do enjoy Thursday very much and wouldnt lump them in the stereotypical music type that gets bashed here.
If your asking about the old emo, which have definetly hardcore or indie influences, there are bands like cap n jazz, embrace, rites of spring, Fugazi, jawbreaker, mineral, hot water music, pedro the lion, moneen, burning airlines, indian summer and the list goes on.
