expose the cakes when they're fully colonized and look about ready to pin. light here and there to check the cakes for contams doesn't hurt it though.
any kind of normal light is fine, from what i understand. avoid bright lights. from what i understand, natural light is better then fake. blue lights is aparently the best light to go by.
as for spreading the cakes out, I don't know much about that. I've only recently got into growing, and am about ready to harvest a 2nd (and very good) flush from my cakes...so I assume everything I did worked good. I left the cakes in standard for. I'd say leave them in cake form for you first try.
ps - Just an fyi....Just about every guide worthy of being followed that I read explained when to start exposing to light. If your asking these questions, you definitly didn't do enough research. I don't care, personally, but you will definitly get some guff over that.
