Temp Problem
    #4578433 - 08/25/05 10:39 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Ok im going crazy over here the room I have my colonizing jars in is about 75 degrees so I put a heater and the heater shuts off after it reaches certain temp which is 75 degrees so I removed the thermostat and now it gets too hot. How can I keep the room at a steady 86 degrees ???

i found some research indicating that 86 F is actually too hot and can retard myc growth. don't use the heater without a thermostat, thas dangerous! 77 - 82 F is preferred.

Removing a thermostat from an electric heater, is a great way to start a fire, burn the house down, or at the very least - pop fuses out - all the time. WARNING = FIRE HAZARD.

A fire might actually brighten my day up..lol but for real how can I keep the temp. steady w/o an electric heater? An aquarium heater in a bucket of water?

I've never seen anybody really find the answer-- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer."

If $$$$ is an issue. Check Thrift stores for a little electric heater, with a thermostat that you can adjust to a certain temperature & it will maintain it.

willis thank you for the concern and I agree never use a heater without a thermostat but you must read up on optimum temps for incubation and fruiting, so we're all on the same page 82-84F. is optimum for incubating this is taking into account the heat (very little) created by the jars themselves during the spawn run. Fruiting temps are 74-77F. these temps haven't and will not change anytime in the future. FYI
