Possible To Save These Jars?
    #457830 - 11/14/01 06:44 AM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Let's just say that somebody decided to mix up jars while stoned. She used the standard mmgg recipe tripled - 2 cups verm, 3/4 cup rye flour, 3/4 cup water. Being under the influence, she used only 1/2 cup rye & 1/2 cup water. The jars were Thai KS with inner reservoir. After a week, (with very little myc growth) she finally noticed that her jars were DRY. She began shooting sterile water through filter discs into the inner reservoir, a few cc's a day, and watching for signs of too much moisture. A few of the jars began to show signs of recovery, new splotches of myc. Not as rhizo as she would would have liked, but (having used the entire syringe) she was happy to see anything. At day 11, the best jars were only at about 15%. Do you think she would have a chance of saving at least a couple jars, so she won't have to re-buy the strain?
Any advice?

I don't really know anyone who grows mushrooms. I just come here for fun.

hard to predict if they will finish. if they do, it'll likely take quite a while.
one option you can consider would be to extract a bit of the living tissue and then growing it out to make more syringes.
do you have a decent glovebox ?
if not, you could try the oven door tek, but i'm not really a fan of it myself.
but what you want is, in a sterile environment, to remove a small piece of living tissue then transfer it to sterilized agar or honey/dextrose water so it can grow out.
do some searches and reading on these methods,
and you can save the strain even if these jars fail to finish.
