Do you get many flushes using the Coir/verm mix? On average how many do you think?
I ask this cause I am trying to avoid poo (I know thats a noob thing to say, but it smells =P) so I am looking for good alternatives.

Horse manure doesnt smell like anything but dirt. Coir is good too though.

I have heard that Coir is lacking in nutes so does that decrease overall flushs? Besides worm casting and adding coffee grinds, what are some other ways to up the nutes in coir?

coir is very nutritious and has been used with great success as a bulk substrate, even without any additives or even ph balancing.

There is a misnomer going on about coir nutritional value. The C/N ratio of coir can run from about 70 to 1, to 200/1. (dependent on source & production method)
Optimal compost C/N value for Cubensis is about: carbon / nitrogen ratio <17:1, nitrogen 2.6%, phosphorus 0.2-05%, potassium 1.5-2.5%, calcium 1.5-2.5%, available boron <2 ppm, available ammonium <10 ppm, soluble salts 3.0-5 OdS/m.
You want to bump up the "N" value of coir. With any one of several organic "N" supplements.

Thanks Agar, but what are some of those organic "N" supplements other than what I already mentioned.

Is this tek recommended for the newbie? I've tried PF, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

I did this tek for my first time, and along with a lot of reading here, it worked out perfect.

I think grains are suitable for newbs, as long as you got a head on your shoulders. I followed the Rye-> syringe to print and it was easy for me. A lot of people think that PC's are expensive, but if you can find one at a good will it's cheap.

Hey thanks for the replies. I will begin this tek in a couple of days. Since I'm a bit of a novice at this hobby, are there any expected problems with this tek? Has anyone ran across situations using this one that they solved somehow?

I followed the steps exactly, except for the holes in the lids, and the auto-greenhouse, i have a ghetto tub, but I had NO problems. 0 contams. Great flush.
