this solitary pin has been growing by itself for a couple of days. i haven't seen any more pins. could i be doing something wrong? does this happen a lot? can this affect the rest of my case once this lil' guy matures? what do you think?

You've got some overlay. RH may be too high?

No you shouldnt, and you dont have overlay..dont sweat it. You can let that pin mature, or pick it now and let the rest of the flush come in. If you let it mature, it'll draw alot of extra energy, and it'll get bigger then the rest, but the rest will be smaller. If you pluck it, you'll get a more even flush and all of the fruits will be slightly smaller. I think it helps increase yeilds...but its not hugly significant, and that first shroom can be good for a print, sometimes I let them go, sometimes not..the rest should turn into pins soon though, if you cover them with a casing layer, you'll choke them out and kill your pinset.

Well, it probably wont be a "monster"..

just bigger then the others.
See these casings (especially the far one)..you can see some are mature, and the others are small..they didnt get much bigger, they all start opening theyre caps..but you can see the larger ones in the picture, from an uneven pinset:

I left them, because there was a few early ones, not just one..here they are mature (on the left):

but if you get a nice even pinset, you can get nice even flushes more like these:

I suggest picking the early volunteer and getting your first valuable lesson in yields. If you leave it it will retard the others from bolting if you pick it you'll soon have a ton more shrooms much quicker and the quicker you get to harvests the quicker the next flush will bolt and this usually leaves the contams with their little mouths hanging open saying WTF? hehe GL
I love that pic too! are those jumbos or extra large BTW?

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"
