Venezuela next?
    #4571619 - 08/23/05 04:37 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Pat Robertson's comment was merely a test shot fired to see how America reacts.

Bush & Co. have had Venezuelan oil in their sites for a long time. I expect a full-blown demonization of Chavez to be put in gear before the year's end to pave the way for yet another "democratization".

no, not on the american continent. it'd be too much of an economical risk, given that almost all american countries are "economical allies" with the US.

I don't think Bush and Chavez will be any type of allies for long, when Bush could simply take the oil by force.

What is demonization to a demon? Acknowledgement! Appreciation!
Ah but what is demonization to Swami? When will the invasion occur? We ask for these things, John Edwards, because we want to know. And place bets. And retire from our winnings.

Pat Robertson is crazy enough to be admitted to a mental institution. Chavez will be democratically re-elected next year because he still maintains the majority of support among Venezuelans; is that not democracy at work? But the US will continue to push for his overthrowing and assassination. The usual policy of the US government - overthrowing democratically elected leaders in Central and South America.

As long as Central and South American countries remain unstable, the US doesn't have to much to worry about on the home front. We keep them quarreling amoungst themselves and we pretentd to be interested in the outcome as long as it isn't a successfull working democracy that sheds light on our failing one.

That frees us up to invade Middle Eastern countries.

Venezuela may be a pain in the ass but not a serious threat. Castro is still going, Venezuela will have no problem.

Chavez offers cheap gas to poor in U.S.

Tuesday, August 23, 2005; Posted: 7:29 p.m. EDT (23:29 GMT)

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, popular with the poor at home, offered on Tuesday to help needy Americans with cheap supplies of gasoline.

"We want to sell gasoline and heating fuel directly to poor communities in the United States," the populist leader told reporters at the end of a visit to Communist-run Cuba.

Chavez did not say how Venezuela would go about providing gasoline to poor communities. Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA owns Citgo, which has 14,000 gas stations in the United States.

The offer may sound attractive to Americans feeling pinched by soaring prices at the pump but not to the U.S. government, which sees Chavez as a left-wing troublemaker in Latin America.

Gasoline is cheaper than mineral water in oil-producing Venezuela, where consumers can fill their tanks for less than $2. Average gas prices have risen to $2.61 a gallon in the United States, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Chavez said Venezuela could supply gasoline to Americans at half the price they now pay if intermediaries who "speculated ... and exploited consumers" were cut out.

Venezuela supplies Cuba with generously financed oil and plans to help Caribbean nations foot their oil bills.

Chavez, in Cuba to attend the graduation of Cuban-trained doctors from 28 countries, was seen off at the airport by Cuban President Fidel Castro. Washington has accused the two leaders of being a destabilizing influence in South America.

Chavez and Castro offered to give poor Americans free health care and train doctors free of charge.

If you'd like to make an offical proclamation of your prediction, we can see how it stands up to the test of time. Others have noted that some of your claims and predictions haven't happened. I'm not agreeing with them, but I think that if you make a specific prediction, we'll be able to see how they turn out.

My prediction was "official" (whatever that means) and specific. Chavez will be publicly demonized by Bush and the RW media many times before the end of the year.

Lest you forget how we know Saddam is evil: we were told it endlessly on TV and radio. No evidence; no nothing. Oh yeah - he invaded "the democracy" of Kuwait. (George Bush' senior's term. Why would Bush call it a democracy when it is no such thing? Could this be ignorance or more likely manipulation?) Iraq invaded Kuwait mainly on border disputes involving slant-drilling of Iraqi oil fields.
