Experiment with sponge substrate
    #4572225 - 08/23/05 07:26 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I always wondered if it was possible to start mycellial growth out of a very porous sponge. Soon, I might attempt it. Maybe soaked/ injected with agar or a "poo soup".lol.

I injected some sponge soaked in wheat flour and water yesterday. A guy called Doc Charlie was experimenting a few years ago, growing on that foam stuff you put dried flowers into.

i think if you could get this to work and grow some shrooms, thay would be extremely weak in potency because a sponge could not hold the nutrients that a nice thick substrate could hold.

But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer."

I also think that it would need to have moisture constantly added to it because of it being so porous and the misting would slowly drain the nutes out. It would be worth a try, but I wouldn't expect anything spectacular.

I already thought of the moisture deal. Just regular injections of a "poo syringe" lol. That would also keep a constant supply of nutes. If it did work, That would be soooo much easier and cheaper than substrates.
