My little bro has issues...help *update*
    #4571688 - 08/23/05 07:00 PM (12 years, 2 days ago)

He won't stop smoking pot. He's on probation and every time he gets piss tested he goes right back to boot camp. I'm a fairly open person, and I see no harm in him smoking, but for christ sakes, make your PO happy then when you're clean and done, do what you gotta do. Our whole family smokes pretty much, and he's the only one having trouble stopping. I hate watching my dad try to control his habits, when the minute he leaves there's my bro tokin up. I've already ceased smoking with him, and associating any of that with him in hopes he'll just do the right thing but the other day I sat down here with his PO and his councelor in the other room and watched his PO lead him upstairs to the bathroom for a piss test. He failed and he's going back to boot camp.

Realistically here, the problem is the judicial system. If your brother didn't hurt anyone, or do anything stupid, then whats the punishment for? Is sending him to a boot camp better than letting him smoke pot? Is he doing anything productive now?

Really shitty situation though, fuck,fuck,fuckdapolice.

Have you tried telling him this?

If he looks up to you, maybe telling him how it is wouldn't be a bad idea.

You could try giving him alternatives that won't show up on piss tests, such as kratom or blue lotus or dxm (not a big fan) or even alcohol (don't really recommend that one, but assuming that it's just a substitute for a few weeks it might not be that bad).

It's possible he just doesn't realise exactly what the ramifications are of his actions.

Also, the movie in your signature is real far out.

The way you described your little brother sounds exactly like one of my friends from high school: he had been smoking pot since about the second grade and didn't have any plans of stopping. Now he keeps getting in trouble with the long arm of the law and probably still smokes.

Yeah good point, you could always suggest that he gets one of his clean friends to donate him some pee.

just rhetorical, but... Who has a problem? If the family approves and smokes also and he isn't suffering from drug use, maybe it's not really a big deal. I was on probation in a different state from my residence and failed every drug test I was sent in the mail. I told the judge and PO that as a doctor, I was educated and responsible enough that THEY didn't need to cause a problem for ME. They didn't agree, but I didn't get tested anymore either. I'm sure it's different for a kid, but eventually it's just beating a dead horse.

I know this gov't is fucked up, but he's even taken an ingorant attitude toward me. "I don't care" is his response to everything. I know there's an underlying issue somehwere but I don't know how to get thru. Hopefully he'll pull himself out of it, our family tends to do that.

It's just my dad, me, and my bro in the house. Our mom died 3 years ago, and he didn't show any signs of trouble. I think it's the fact he's having trouble with my dad...I don't want to get too into detail but I think my bro is having trouble with my dad's "orientation". I'm completely cool with it but something tells me my bro is not, and there's no way I can change his mind. I think he's smoking just to try to rebel against him. GOD it's like a Roseanne family :P

Horrible advice.

You and your family should hold an intervention, and tell him he's fucking his life up. All those probation violations are adding up. I'v seen friends go to prison because they wouldn't stop smoking weed while they were on probation.

My dad told him he's done trying to stop him. As far as he's concerned, he can rot in jail.

sounds like the judge/PO talking.. what kind of intervention is it when several drug users tell someone else to stop using? Ask the judge/PO about drinking coffee or a beer, hypocrits usually have problems with this stuff.

Idunno man, i guess its up to you than.
He's your brother, and you gotta try to help him out, but you can't help someone who dosen't want to be helped.
Go talk to his, tell him what you think, how you feel. Put it bluntly that your not going to let him fuck his life up. Thats all you can really do. After that its up to him.

I will keep trying. I've given him examples of my friends who have gotten caught before and are on probation and have been clean since the arrest. I don't think it's that, I really believe he's having trouble understanding my dad's situation and my mom's death. I asked him if his goal was to go to jail, and he said, "No...my goal is to stay high". lol i really don't know

"Our whole family smokes pretty much"

Maybe that has something to do with it. Is he young? Maybe he's trying to emulate older family members that he respects. I know you said that you had quit smoking with him, but did everyone else? Does your family smoke it around him, knowing that he's not supposed to be around it during his probation?

Wha.. what the fuck. That was some ignorant shit.
Yes, I'm actually a goddamn narcotics agent, but that dosen't make any differance. The situation is right or wrong this dudes brother is on probation, getting piss-tested, and is to stupid to stop smoking weed.
"Ask the judge/PO about drinking coffee or a beer"
yea, that'll help

He smoked before I started. I was 18 when I decided to do it, and he was 14. At that point also, he didn't know my family did it, he started tokin all on his own. My dad wouldn't even smoke with me will I was 18. My dad knows he does it but doesn't want to see him do it in his house until he's 18.

Thank you. Could you please be a little more specific? Is it me saying that alcohol may be a suitable temporary replacement? Because if so I think I agree with you that it might not be the best advice. Not horrible, but probably not good.
