Substrate Potency Ratings
    #4566887 - 08/22/05 03:25 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

The vets seem to be in agreement that it is not the strain that equates to potency, but the substrate.

I would like to see the vets rate on a scale of 1 to 10 (1= weakest, 10= strongest), the potency of shrooms based on the substrate.

such as...

1-3 wild(hunted)
3-6 brf
6-10 wbs spawn to h/poo

etc?.

There are certainly many variations that have been tried, and I think it would be interesting to see the vets ratings on any and all substrates they have experience with, (in one place) . You could always refer newbs like myself to such a list, and we could match a potency rating to a substrate method at a glance. One could then select the subtrate method for maximum potency that best suits their growing situation (budget, location, etc?).

Just an idea?..

Compost + straw = 10

It's hard to really rate them on a scale, I can tell you that 10 grams of BRF cake grown shroomies wouldn't put me at the level that 3.5 grams of compost / straw grown ones did.

If I had to put some basic numbers, I guess..

H-poo with worm castings (or other extra N, just a bit, some kelp meal too): 9.5-10+
H-poo: 9.5+
Rye/millet: 6-8+
Straw: 5-7+
BRF would probably be somewhere down/around here, personally havnt used it, so I'm just basing that off what others say after trying manure.. Wild would vary depending on factors like how much sunlight they got (UV), what they were grown on, and what species they are. You can get wild copes that would be 30+ on a scale of 1-10, compared to cubies..or much less potent mushrooms.

In my humble opinion..
