ok, sorry for all the noob questions...... what is the best way to keep my small terarium at the precise temp. Room temperature these days has been about 65-70. Ive read about using a fish heater, but that doesnt seem feasible to me.
I also heard you could use a warm pack (like for sleeping with) Do those work good? Im just looking for something real inexpensive and low hassle. my terrarium is complete minus the heat source.
Also, is a 60 watt light about 2 feet above it suffice? or do i need fluorescent? thanks!

60 watt light at about 2feet is good, however you wont need this till colonization is done.
as for the heat issue - ive had this problem. A) i baught a metal warmer for 10.00 off some site i dont remember, but they sell them in wal mart.
B)the heating pads for your legs or arms for body injuries, do work but only for about 10 hours, so you will constantly replace them.
C)This was the one that worked best, HEAT RISES......i put them in my attic and that did an amazingly good deal on colonization, but if you dont have a attic.....i dont know.
-------------------- No matter what I say and no matter what I write here.
I'm sick of always looking at this page with a blank stare.

For your light, any source of light will do. The best one is sun, natural one. But anything will do fine. Some even use christmas light with success! For your heat, if you cannot use fish heater, perhaps you can use your light to make it increase, or decrease. Place it closer to make it increase, or further to decrease it. If your terarium is in a small room and you can control the room temperature, your terarium temp will be the same. Good luck

i meant by a heat pad like a warming blanket. not the heat gel things, although thats a cool idea! now whats this metal warmer thing? I may go to walmart tonight and look. My room temp (in my closet) is around 70.
What about some sort of heat/light lamp.... do those work?

any metal warmer will cause your humidity to drop, don't know if it will drop it enough to made a significant difference but this will surely have an impact. heat lamp take a big amount of electricity, and are generaly red, and red light is not good for developement. why don't you buy a little plastic cylinder to 1$, fill it with water and buy a fish heater for 10$ !? cheap one is not expensive
