Any way to speed up LC colinsation?
    #4565700 - 08/22/05 02:33 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I made my first LC about 2 or more weeks ago usign jars similar to how agar does it with the jar and two tubes filled with polyfill.
The LC was a 3-4% Kara mix.

After bout 2-3days i notcied the first signs of growth and it was lookin like it was doing ok for the first week but since then i havent noticed hardly any more growth. The temps havent changed in the TIT and the jars in there with them are colinising just as fast.
I couldnt seem to locate a post where it had the total colinsation time for a LC so dunno if its going slow or not.

Perhaps it is runnin out of O2, maybe polyfill packed in too tight, anyone recommend i remove it and inject some air in thier with a shyringe, i just dun wanna help increase any chances of contams. It wouldnt of run out of sugar to feed on would it?

Cheers

Stir Bar & stir plate speeds up the process.

Just agitate the LC jars a bit.

Those stir plates are gnarly, how much do they usually run?

Between $20 & $40 on eBay + shipping, if you are patient.
Search in lab eqt under stir plate & hot plate , sometimes you can get a combo cheaper than a straight stir plate.

Yer i have been stiring it up each mornin and it breaks it up into bout 10 lil peices but not long b4 its back to the same 3cm big clump.

Whats the average time for a karo culture to colinise to the point where it is ready to be used?

Mine take about 4-7 days to be good and colonized. Then I store them in a refridgerator....
