Mold and Shroom
    #4564905 - 08/22/05 12:12 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

first, I apologize becasue Im sure this has been covered before. However, I did a search and i can't seem to find anything that specifically answers my question.

I was wondering what the health effects of eating shrooms with mold on them could be. From what I've gathered, you will just feel sick, but I'd like to know if there is anything else possible. thanks.

huh? what KIND of mold.. just like shrooms aren't just shrooms mold isn't just mold. As far as I know some mold can be toxic, so the end result can be very bad indeed. Of course I guess we have more to worry about from bacteria and slimes... Well I ate some infected shrooms once but I was 99% sure it was penicillium so yeah, everything turned out fine for me...

Worst case scenario is you end up with a systemic mycosis in which the mold ends up colonizing YOU and your cake. Obviously, this isn't going to happen to everyone who eats contaminated mushrooms, but why gamble?

When in doubt, throw it out!

Still remember that from my foods and nutrition class in highschool.
