Everything you described fits perfectly under the Libertarian Party platform.

Do you believe the government should help with any form of welfare or healthcare?

Do you support the establishment of nature preserves?

i think the federal government should have no say in either matter. if a state wants to set aside their own land for public use or support their sick and homeless, it is the state's choice.

Finally, do you support a non-interventionist foreign policy?

He seemed to imply that when he said that American soldiers should only die protecting American soil, a typical stance of non-interventionists.

Whoops, you're right, missed that.

Then yeah, automan, I don't think you could be closer to the LP if you tried.

no, i have no problem with sending aid, supplies, or equipement to our allies, but i believe that US soldiers should only die protecting US soil.

Well then, let's say you're as close as one could reasonably hope to be to a political party.

I agree in all areas that you've cited but one, I think that the federal government should stipulate that state governments do have some laws that are geared towards environmental issues and setting state land aside to be protected.

I think that state land should be set aside, but it should then be donated to private environmental groups to maintain it, perhaps charging people to use it as a national park.

Public government-sponsored parks usually have major problems, including understaffing and lack of funds. Perhaps private environmental organizations could do better without draining our tax dollars.

Sure, but they should be following federal guidelines for what they can and and can't do. I don't want to see the local parks turned into Enviro-Rides? and theme parks by a group that can manage to churn out a profit.

we have 3 huge parks within 30 minutes of my city that were private donations. they were donated with an endowment that, through interest, will pay for park staff and services forever.

at this point, if the state wants to make a state park and no one wants to donate or sell land, how would they take it? by force? that is never a good idea.

I think libertarianism as a general guiding philosophy is great, but sometimes, its followers can take it a bit too far. Small government, free markets, and civil liberties are all good things, but some take it to the extent that they never think there's a place for government intervention, and believe the market will always take care of every problem. I was once such a libertarian. I still support the Libertarian Party, but I do so with a more skeptical mind now.

To anyone,

Why wouldn't his views be in accord with the Independent party and why is the Independent party rarely discussed here?
