OH crap... What should the next step be?

In short my sisters friends dog sparky who lives in a small island nation with no drug laws is having a problem with some shooms and I hope someone here can help. What follows is what he said to me the other day when he used his telepathic powers to speak to me. "I pressure cooked four bags and two jars of rye/finch seed mix at 15 PSI for one hour, after cooling I inoculated bags and jars with two strains of spores from an undisclosed but very trusted supplier (HE). after three days and about 80 F the jars were showing great growth and the bags were too...except for all of that damned green mold. Needless to say the bags were all tossed! The two jars are still doing well and should be fully colonized later this week. What I'm wondering is how I'm going to use these two cakes to grow out a better quantity of mycelium. I'm thinking of inoculating jars of plain rye ala Oss with small interior pieces of the cakes but what is the easiest and most FOOL proof way doing this? If this even a good idea?" Now I'm sure these are pretty basic questions....but he IS a dog after all so cut him some slack. Thanks! Shaker

Having tried to innoculate jars with mycelium from another jar, I can tell you my expierience was either massive contamination or horribly slow growth. This was probl'y just due to my stupidity, but I'd reccomend fruiting the cakes, getting prints and starting over from fresh spores. Like I said, I probl'y just fucked up;you might have succes with a transfer. I'm sure other folks here can give good advice on how to do that right cause it's pretty obvious to me that I can't do it. Ive never had contams with syrynges tho.

"due to my stupidity" Hmmm, I am approaching the step you guys are talking about... DO you think it was due to stupidity ( I doubt that! ) or sterility issues, or something else...? JUst curious if you have the time :)

I think he is planning to try to inoculate with mycelium from 1/2 of each cake and fruit a small batch with the other 1/2 - 2/3 for future experiments. Thanks to all who have read and replied so far! Shaker "What made you think that was pudding?"

That damn dog has another question! He wants to know if PC Cambodia or PC Thailand grown out on rye will fruit under the normal conditions. I've been reading some teks to him and most SEEM to suggest that the rye is only used to inoculate bulk substrait (straw ect). He's much rather grow out the rye and case that if it will work. Shaker P.s. Sparky sez thanks and wants to know if anyone knows a good Bitch who wants to settle down and make some puppies. Or Poppies.

I can't honestly say if it was stupidity or not, but basically, I innoculated five jars from pieces of a cake under the same sterile conditions that I've had complete success with in the past working with prints and syringes. Four contaminated and the last one grew very slowly at first and then just refused to continue. I shook the jar and waited two weeks but nothing grew after that. I'm sure I had to have done something wrong, but I kept everything pretty sterile. I used a cake that four flushes had come off of so maybe that had something to do with the result......

"I used a cake that four flushes had come off of so maybe that had something to do with the result...... " Ahh... Well maybe. He plans to use two "just birthed" cakes and the mycelium watrer tek. Before birthing actually. I hope the fact that the "ramsey seal" was a little close and has mycelial growth on it wont hurt things.

Shaker: To answer your first question. Yes: you can transfer mycelium substrate to other jars from another colinized jar. I would recommend that the jar be fully colinized and attempt this right before casing the rest of the jar (lessens contams). I use the oven Tek to transfer mycelium substrate to other jars/contaners. I have had great sucess with this. Necron99: You usually want to transfer a pices of the cake before you initiate pinning, becuase the mycelium is still in a vegetative state (growing state). Once you initiate pinning, the mycelium takes on a different roll. It then wants to produce shrooms and not keep growing. However Mycelium can regress back to a vegitative state if conditions are /meetcorect.
