Multiple Life Sentences
    #4562923 - 08/21/05 04:16 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Giving a convicted felon 200 years or 3 life sentences is the height of the ridiculousness and neurosis of the US justice system.

Potential murderer 1: I was gonna kill the whole family as I don't mind getting 75 years in prison, but I couldn't handle 200 years.

Potential murderer 1: I was going to gun down everyone at work as I don't mind screwing up this life, but to screw up the next two as well - that is too much!

Seems we don't trust ourselves to fairly implement a sentence so adding imaginary shit will better protect us.

It is too avoid the person having a chance at parole.

Then a sentence to life without parole is sufficient in a non-bizarro world.

Yes, but we live in a world where life without parole often means you get parole in 10 years or so. Life in prison NEVER means "life in prison". Some lawyer should have had an ass kicking over that one.

"non-bizarro?"

So, it follows that a death sentence is sufficient in a bizarro world?

Anybody with a sentence like that needs to be put to death. No reason to waste tax money on it.
Death Row is about the dumbest of it all. It should take no more than 72 hours to carry out a death sentence. 5-10 years is ridiculous.

Beg to differ, at least in California. No murderer (including 2nd degree) has been granted parole for quite some time. This includes sentences of 15 years to life which obviously in theory should allow for parole at least some of the time after 15 years with time off for good behavior. I don't know how it goes in other states for murder.

I don't think it's the lawyers that make parole happen, but they do deserve an ass kicking just on general principal.

Am talking about a sentence meaning exactly what is says: no more no less.

No chance of parole should ACTUALLY mean "no chance of parole".

This whole playing with the meanings of words in politics and law has gotten out of hand. Now white might mean black - or it might not.

I was refering to my country the US. I suspect Europe is even wimpier than the US, though, in that regard. I have mixed feelings on the death penalty, but I have mixed feelings about supporting serial killers and rapists with my taxes.

Why keep a serial killer alive in prison? He will not come to some realization and change. He is insane at least to some degree. Lets get it over with and inject him. Then we will have room for those dangerous pot smokers.

"Then we will have room for those dangerous pot smokers"

Have you noticed that the police would rather bust drug offenders? They are easier to arrest and more cooperative than violent criminals.

When discussing lawyers, nothing means what is says. If it did, they'd be out of business.

3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.
