The first bones of homosapien discovered in Somalia.

Unless you proscribe to Creationism; there is no "first" homo-sapien.

Well that's a classifying label, so surely you must draw the line somewhere along the gradient of evolution.

Of course, I doubt anyone figured where that would be <:=D

it did the continent as a whole no good to be treated as a source for mass export of humans as chattel (quite often totally decimating the culture of the native population in the process)...
there were several fairly high cultures before the arabs & then the europeans began raping africa from, say, the 1300s right up through the 19th & 20th century "colonial" period... (mark twain wrote a scathing piece about the king of belgium getting ridiculously rich from the ummmm exploitation of his african colony...)
it has been estimated that up to 30% of the population of africa was either enslaved or killed during the height of the slave trade (1600s - 1700s)...

if you put a frog in hot water, it will jump out, but if you put it in cold water and then slowly boil it, it will sit there and die. I guess that is the best reply from my brain.

That is really unfair to Africa. There are some abysmal places there, but many African countries are doing well in the information age. Countries there are becoming modernized very rapidly with help from the Internet. It must be noted that one of the biggest and most successful email scams ever perpetrated is based in Nigeria. In information technology third world countries will soon outstrip the US because they do not have miles of Aeriel cable to pay for and maintain. Wireless technology will come into it's own in these places.

No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

The new National Geographic is dedicated excuslively to African issues and events. What I've read so far has been extremely interesting with the majority of articles written far better than what I've come to expect. I suggest you pick it up as it deals with many of the questions you've raised directly.
