Question about soaking WBS.

I have a 10lb bag of WBS i want to soak. I dont have any big pots or pans. Could I use a large rubermaid tub with just a lid? Or would that be increaseing the chance of contams? Or would it not even matter since they are going to be PC'ed?
Any comments would be appreciated, I cant wait to try my hands at WBS. Thanks.

That should work fine. You soak to germinate endospores in the grain, so that they are killed w/ the PC. GL!

Hmm. I just now relized; I have to work tomorrow @ 5pm. If I let the wbs soak for 24 hours. Tomorrow @ 4pm I will load the jars, but I wont have time to PC. Would it hurt the jars to sit around for another 10-12 hours before I start PC'ing them? I might have to call in "SICK" from work heh.

You should be ok. I wouldn't wait any longer than that. Anything more than 36 and you asking for the seeds to start germinating.
In my opinion, you might be better off soaking for less than 24 hours, bring them up to a boil and simmer just for a few minutes, then drain and pressure cook. You don't really NEED to soak for a whole 24 hours, just ideal. If you do this, then you can still make it to work by 5 and won't need to call in. - Oh, what we do for our "babies"
Good Luck sir.

It's not necessary, no, but it is an extra precaution. Try not to have too many explodes as well, it slows colonization. If you're concerned about contams, just PC for an extra 15-30 minutes.

I had a similar timing issue with rye - I soaked 24 hours, loaded the jars but then could get them in the PC for another 12 hours and when I checked they were sprouting.
