Microwave pasturization??????
    #4562667 - 08/21/05 01:06 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I used a micro to past. a mixture of coir and verm, and well........it kinda ended up like the photos at the bottom. One of them also has some cute little sprouts from the cow poo, I am guessing there was some undigested seeds, or seeds picked up from the ground upon collection. The poo substrate was pasteurized via an oven bag in a pot of 170 degree water, it did not show any signs of contams, but once I cased with the coir/verm mixture pasteurized in the micro, well....that was all folks.

Remember a microwave will sterilize, not pasturize. When using coir for a casing material, it should buffed up with lime. I use 1 cup of hydrated lime for 1 coir brick. Crushed oyster shells help for a long term buffing as well. You can try to use a straight mist with 3% H202 to get rid of the cobweb.
