Ready to Birthe and Dunk?
    #4562276 - 08/21/05 11:00 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Ok my jars are fully colonized. And from what i understand, I need to dunk them right?

heres what im confused with.
Its said to dunk after you birth them. And do it for 12-24 hours. And then roll it in vermiculite.....

does a dunk mean to dunk it for a second or dunk it for 12-24 hours?
Thanks for your help guys! I never could find an answer

in or out of the jars, submerge for 12-24 hours to soak up water, roll in vermiculite and then place in fruiting chamber

I fill the jar with tap water and I put a plastic bottle cap on the cake to completely submerge it and seal the jar back up and let it sit at room temp for 12-24 hours. I hope this helps.

i think the cold shock/dunk is overrated, just dunk them at room temp and you will be fine. the cold shock stalls the myc and can delay pinning.
i guess as long as they are all the same strain then you can dunk them in the same tub. this is just for id purposes.
it really doesn't matter what you dunk them in as long as they are submerged fully for 12-24 hours.
best of luck

Cold shock is not good for your cakes. It only works with gourmet mushrooms, and actually causes the pins to delay with Cubies.

In my opinion dunking is only really needed after flushes, unless for some reason they got dried out(this would only happen once in a blue moon from my experiece). if you are casing there is no need to dunk at all.

I'm not casing, so may bee ill just dunk it for 12 hours or so. And keep it at room temperature.

Nah, thats not true. Its best to dunk after birthing because it replaces all the water lost from colonization. Remember mushies are 90% water, the more they have, the bigger they can grow(and better pinsets you can have). Dunk regardless of casing or if you're just fruiting cakes.

And with casings I dunk also because if cakes are dry, they suck moisture out of everything around it and my casing dries and pulls away from the sides.
